solar eclipse http://www.eclipse2017.org/2017/path_t

It's a Monday and areas in the path will be jammed so make your plans if interested.

This was in Cairns in 2012

I rode by this beach yesterday

This year North America gets a perfect swath if the weather cooperates.

Nebraska tourism is stating with the flat plains, smog free skies and everything else they will be offering the best views.

The path of totality cuts right through Deals Gap. And US 441 through Great Smoky Mountains National Park is on the edge of the path, although the few routes in and through the park are sure to be jammed solid with traffic. Robbinsville, Franklin, and Highlands NC are near the path of maximum totality, and Andrews NC is right on it. Tellico Plains TN is south of the path of maximum totality ... which also means the entirety of the Cherohala Skyway would be an interesting place to be, and the path of maximum totality crosses it. It passes through this area between 2:33 PM and 2:39 PM.

Hmmmm....

I have not ridden Kentucky /Tennesee and there are still some cheap places for the dates near Oak Ridge and I could see the nuclear birth place too. 1200 KM

I booked this for $44 a night cdn

Figured even if the weather sucks for Eclipse it's a nice place to ride out of and I can cancel

Figure I can cover off the Smokies too

I ordered glasses ( minimum is 3 pair ) so if anyone needs $6 each.

Won't you see most of it from Ontario?

There is no totality at all in Ontario ...if you have never seen one it is worth chasing. I saw one at Uni ...still recall exactly where I was...pretty impressive.
Missed the one in Cairns.

I'm happy with the 70% from Ontario. This long range planning is taking a hit this year with the unpredictable weather. Started out for Algonquin this morning and it poured just as I wheeled the bike out and stayed that way for a few hours. I'll try again tomorrow.

This long range planning is taking a hit this year with the unpredictable weather.

10,500 km so far in multi-day trips since June and none hung up by rain tho got wet on and off coming down Michigan - poured between the bridges - then cleared just at the MicMack.
I've found it fairly predictable.
Ah forgot - same trip Grand Alconquin Tour - damp ( not raining tho ) u to Chapleau - then a good pour over lunch..cleared almost immediately heading west. They all are isolated storm lines...it's summer...once in while it thunderstorms....no reason not to ride.
Maybe if you are camping - different story.

Rain gear gets lonesome if not let out once in a while.
Very near miss looping Superior staying behind Storms ....was surrounded, power out - got to room - 10 minutes later the deluge hit.

You are getting Tstorms funneled your way tho.

I am camping. Testing some gear for a longer trip hopefully up to James Bay but I'm running out of time this year. Rain I don't mind but some of this is monsoon stuff down this way.

This is what the eclipse will look like from Toronto, 76% coverage.

Don't know what the big deal is really, other than it's rare. Saw a 95% solar eclipse when I was about 14 on a perfectly cloudless day. We were cautioned to use welding goggles otherwise the sun can blind you or at least wreck your eyes for a lifetime. Many injured eyes were reported after the eclipse. It lasts only a few minutes and while interesting is hardly worth the time and expense to travel 1,000 km, and especially if it rains, like it's been doing half the summer. My advice combine this with something really worth seeing, although on a bike that would mean anything away from the concrete jungle.

That's what I'm doing ...Smokies were on the bucket list so good reason to ride them and the eclipse is a bonus.

Glad I booked when I did ...

My $44 a night looking for very good tho apparently due to some previous guest problems I don't get the community pool....still the hosts have a porch.

Not entirely fond of the 32 degree forecast. Mesh all the way.

BTW - anyone looking for camping right on the eclipse path

I bailed on the ride ...took a look at tempertures and expected traffic and decided against it.

Will keep you updated from the Forks :D

The Eclipse glasses do work. Kinda cool.

Best I could get was shade #10 welding lenses from Lowes. Not quite strong enough for continual viewing but with some dark glasses on plus the lens should be fine for the quick glance or two. Just saw a guy buy $400 worth of welding helmets from Crappy tire fully admitting to return them tomorrow.

Oregon got a good view - my eclipse glasses are popular.

We are at peak coverage here....almost no cloud ...it's sharp enough

this was from Oregon
