Good bike to learn on

I probably wouldn't recommend the Harley Davidson 750 Street for a newbie. A quick google lookup says the motor is about 57 HP. That might be a wee bit strong

It's a heavy bike though. Power to weight ratio is probably similar to other starter bikes.

Also look at the HD Sportster 883. That's been the beginner Harley for a long time. The air-cooled engine is a bit less powerful than the water-cooled 750, and it's heavier as well, so much lower power to weight ratio than the 750 Street.

Surprised no one has mentioned the Suzuki GS500. Great first bike!

I just want to add the GS500/E is better than the GS500F as a first bike, b/c I swear half of all GS500Fs get dropped and that fairing gets crushed like a Christmas ornament. Drop a GS500/E and probably literally nothing will happen to it. These are also great bikes for learning how to wrench, as they are simple as dirt
 
Is the 500 any bigger?
