Las vegas area

If I were to pick a destination near Vegas, it would be Death Valley. It is a 2 1/2 drive or ride from the City and the scenery is breathtaking. But all the other options, Zion, Valley of the Fire, Grand Canyon, are well worth the visit. Think about extending your visit. If you can't, you might end up going back again and again. Like me.

Since its not a surprise to the misus anymore, she wants to take an atv tour to the valey of fire instead of taking a ride in the bike. Maybe we'll ride to death valley instead.

Ill check zion as well. Thanks for mentioning it

That sounds like a lot of fun joey12jet.

Ive always wanted to cruise around to some of areas where Easy Rider was shot. Found this website http://www.movie-locations.com/movies/e/Easy_Rider.html#.WJ_MKZHEihD listing all the locations. Never made it outside of Lost Wages proper when we were there ages ago. Would love to see some of that scenery and no better way than on a bike.

But being on my M2 still limits rental possibilities. Would love to have my own bike and I understand that Air Canada will fly your bike down on the same flight you're on. Toronto-Vancouver one way was just over $600 about 2 years ago, so it's not exactly cheap. But depending on the length of your trip and planned mileage, it could turn out to be cheaper than a rental.

Good luck with the trip and post pics.

Im still dreaming and putting away the loonies.

cheers,

Kyle
I will check on bringging my own bike and compare it to renting a bike there.

Planning a trip is harder than I thought. Haha. Especially if u consider $$

AFAIK you cannot fly your bike to the US and never could ....you can ( and I have ) fly your bike to say Vancouver. You can also fly return to Europe.

You can however easily get your bike trailered to Las Vegas and back but that's cost prohibitive.

Better might be to fly to LAX and rent a bike there and ride to Vegas.

Vegas Rentals look to be $190 -$250 cdn per day
https://vegasmotorcyclerentals.com

Prices look about the same
http://www.rental-motorcycle.com/namerica/usa/california/los_angeles_rental.html

But you can rent a Wing at least for comfortable travel at speed..but they have some intermediste BMWs as well

You would need to plot a route towards the north - hit Yosemite from the east

Then over to Vegas

March may be miserable ..don't even think about booking a bike until you get there and see the actual weather.

http://gamboool.com/weather-in-las-vegas-nv-in-march-average-temperature-and-highs-and-lows

You could base from Vegas and run Death Valley to the northwest and see how close you can get to Sequoia or Yosemite depending on the weather.

You are in range of the Grand Canyon as well ..and easy day ride and do Route 66

Red Rock Canyon and Hoover dam are both short trips out of Vegas ...after that ...it's a long but fast drive to anythiing interesting.

Car sounds more sensible and Bryce and Zion are in your range...I'd tend to that over Grand Canyon tho in theory you could do it all in 3-5 days rather easily

RVs are likely to be relatively cheap that time of year

Just a note....Canadians are not very hydration smart.....you need to carry water ....lots of it..bike or car.

For what it's worth an M2 is totally sufficient to rent a bike from either Eagle Rider location in Vegas ( and the rest of the country for that matter ).
I wrestled my first Softail out of there as well, and once moving there was no issue. You could also grab a Tiger 1200.
Anyway, enjoy the ATV rental, just know that a bike is well within your grasp also.

I got a response from escape eagle saying that I can rent from them with my M2. I like their 9am to 5pm rate which is 140usd. Ill plan a route for a day then maybe do another 9-5 if the wifey enjoys the ride and scenery.

Now, which route can I do for 8 hours?

Im thinking mount charleston, valley of fire, red rock and hoover dam. Is 9to5 good enough? Or should I split these into two days?

Red Rock Conservation Area is a really short one-way road, I think it's like 20 kms at the most. We were in and out of the park within an hour and that includes sightseeing at the scenic overlooks. It's also super close to the city.

Never been to Mt Charleston, but if you're going to Red Rock, it's also west of the city, so makes sense to do both at the same time.

Valley of Fire and Hwy 167 loop down to Hoover Dam is *the* motorcycle road in the area and is a full days ride. Plus it's east of the city. I'd do this first and if you find you are back in LV early, dash out to Red Rock.

This is what I came up with.

Its 5 hr ride nonstop. Hopefully we can do it all before 5pm

BTW, your route doesn't enter Red Rocks Conservation Area. It just takes you to the front gate and then turns you back around.

This is the Red Rocks loop:

Good thing I posted that here and thanks that u caught that. Ill add the scenic loop for sure. And we might not go to charleston if we are out of time. But if we have time, we will do it

Im deciding if I want to bring my own FF helmet or use the half helmet included in my rental bike.

Can I carry my helmet with me or should I keep it in my checked in luggage?

I tend to agree with Gene that Mt. Charleston could be a stretch. If you rent again day 2 then head up there, but take your time and enjoy the VOF route, the Dam and the scoot through Red Rocks.

If you want to see Lake Mead ( and how low the water level is ), it's a short jaunt off of hwy 167 (Northshore Road) on your way to the VOF, take Callville Bay Road:

Thanks, ill add this to my waypoints. We will try not to rush and enjoy the view.

FF helmets take up a lot of space in a suitcase.

Pretty much every airline I've ever flew on has allowed me to take my helmet on board with me as cabin luggage. If you have a helmet bag, great. If not, at least cover the visor with a bandana or cloth so it doesn't get scratched.

DO NOT PUT YOUR HELMET WITH CHECKED IN LUGGAGE.

It will get destroyed.

It was fun because it was my first ride of 2017. Imagine the feeling of getting on two wheels after a long winter. Lol.

Iirc, temp was around 17 to 22 morning till afternoon. But the last hour of my ride going back to the strip was crazy. The wind was so strong that three of the light poles were down due to wind. And I was struggling on highway because of wind.
