I came back from there a few years ago. If you look at where Nashville sits and then draw almost a straight line towards Pittsburgh, you'll see that it passes through Daniel Boone Forest in Kentucky, and a couple of other sweet forested areas. That route home was awesome. The area in Ohio northwest of Parkersburg is also really great. If I find the route I took, I'll post it up.
My trip psychology for longer getaways is to superslab the first day. The things you miss are things you can pick up on any average weekend.This leaves you more time to explore things at the destination.
