IFTTT - Who uses it? - looking for app to trigger an event

I am trying to get started with this.
Maybe there is another easier option.

I am using an Android phone as a security camera.
I want the camera to start recording when I am not around and to stop recording when I return.

I am thinking about making the security camera phone checking to see if my phone is present and if it not then start recording and stop recording when it detects my phone.

Any ideas?

I use IFTTT extensively for a lot of home automation and am very familiar with it.

It has has the ability to fire triggers as part of geofences, no issues there. However AFAIK there's no way to remotely control apps on a phone based on one. A desktop/laptop computer (via some scripting beyond but in conjunction with IFTTT itself) perhaps, but there's no magic way to have a phone act on something like a text, notification, email or whatnot to trigger it to do start or stop recording video - a fairly specific task. Unless you can find some sort of Android app to accomplish such.
