What's a good DNS to use?

To use......in what capacity? For your local network to resolve addresses? 8.8.4.4 8.8.8.8, or just use your ISP

Google DNS does not do any tracking, but depending on your ISP it may not be faster than using your ISP's DNS

I've used OpenDNS here for years..mainly due to it's robust filtering at the DNS level. Enter the DNS settings at the router level, hop on the website and set the filtering, and blammo...the whole house (& my kids) were now blocked from a lot of the shenanigans on the internet - off colour sites, porn, etc.

Now that they're both in their upper teens I've toned down the blocking a little, but I still use it.

i didn't like the way opendns did redirecting to their advertising for DNS look up failures...

That would be a deal breaker for me as well

Likely that's how they pay for the service

Yep, free service gotta make money somehow.

Personally I rarely type a web address wrong so I never see those pages to begin with. On the occasion I do...no biggie for me, no different then the ads in my Gmail account or banners and such right here at GTAM, easily tuned out if you're not interested.
