Crash victim mourned

Christopher Starr, who died Friday in a motorcycle accident in Norfolk County, was a "real gentleman," says his widow.

"He was the love of my life," Linda Starr said Monday.

"He always put me first and I think what he enjoyed most in life was spending time with his family.

"We did a lot of travelling together, the two of us and sometimes with our family. We created a lot of wonderful memories together."

Mr. Starr died Friday after the motorcycle he was driving went off the road in Port Rowan and ended up in a ravine. He was 66.

Born in England, Mr. Starr came to Canada as a child.

He was long-distance truck driver for more than 30 years and was owner-operator of his own rig. For about the past five years, Mr. Starr delivered The Expositor to homes in Paris and St. George.

The Starrs were married for more than 40 years. Linda remembers their first date.

"We went horseback riding," she said. "It was a wonderful time.

"He loved animals and that's why, in lieu of flowers, we've asked people to donate to the SPCA."

Donations to the SPCA or Huntington Society can be made through the Wm. Kipp Funeral Home in Paris at www.wmkippfuneralhome.com or by calling the home at 519-442-3061.

Linda has Huntington disease, a brain disorder that causes uncontrolled movements and affects a person's emotions and ability to think. It is a progressive disease.

Mr. Starr cared for his wife and was involved in fundraising activities for the Huntington Society, Linda said.

"He was a real gentleman in everything he did," she said.

Daughter Tiffany Hodges said she will remember her dad's dry humour.

"There were so many different aspects to his personality and he was always so good with his grandchildren," Hodges said. "They always wanted to be around their papa."

Visitation for Mr. Starr will be held at the Kipp funeral home at 184 Grand River St. N. on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A celebration of life will be held on Wednesday from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 29, at 17 William St., Paris.

Mr. Starr is also survived by sons John (Beatrix) and Ryan (Jessica) and daughter Jackie Stuart (Doug).
