Honda CBR ripping the shoulder on the 404 this am

countless people on GTAM always like to blame the stunters, or idiots or wreckless drivers for their insurance rates, but if you analyze motorcycle insurance rates across the continent, you'll quickly see that we are paying abnormally high rates, in an area that does not see abnormally high accidents. Therefore the blame must be placed elsewhere; insurance lobbyists. They lobby our governments to allow them to charge more for our premiums as they cry broke in doing so.

It's a ploy. Don't fall for it.

Its because ontario has the highest payouts for everything, medical, accident, time off, rentals, etc etc etc. When people claim they claim huge, so it drives our rates up. We also have a lot of fraud which probably contributes to the high payouts, because if youre running a scam, might as well get as much as you can. The other issue is we have 1,000,000 liability as the lowest possible coverage, when you see places with like, $130/year insurance, they usually have 50k or less liability coverage.

Fraud, taking advantage of all that, also has a HUGE part in it.

Which is an absolute joke. If you hurt someone you can be guaranteed they're going to pursue you for more than $50K...so when you get sued for a few hundred thousand dollars or more, all those people who decided to get cheap insurance are going to find themselves living under a bridge somewhere in short order.

I 'think' you can lower liability to around $200,000 in Ontario, although you'd be sort of stupid to do it. Like others have said, you really can't compare Ontario to the US, where you're covered for repairs to your bike, but not much else. Hit someone and you'll be screwed financially for life.

That said, even so we still do overpay here in Ontario, there is no denying that.
