Dead bike :(

A WHOLE loonie? That's far too much, I will only accept half! :p

Got the call from the dealership today, said parts will be in November 30th. I mentioned I was worried about damage to the engine when it failed and requested a complete engine replacement rather than repair, she said that's up to Honda Canada and it would take a bit longer if that's the case. Typical repair is only a 1 day process apparently.

Longer isn't a problem at this point. Who cares whether it gets fixed in December or January. If they don't want to give you a new motor, I would try to get them to extend the warranty. If it doesn't blow up in the first year, it probably won't.

Get a Suzuki.!

Ya, that seems to be the general advice given these days. That's right, if it doesn't work don't fix it, just dump it. Current spouse is defective? No problem, get another one with "possibly" no, or fewer defects and lower mileage.

Three and a half freaking months for parts! What an absolute DISGRACE! No wonder so many Jap bikes end up in the scrap yard. Like they say, "You never have to fix a Honda, because the first breakdown is the last..." :lmao:

Turns out I got the repair date wrong. It was September 30th, not november. Took it in the other day, they opened it up today. They took some pics for me... Get ready....

I did an oil change like 400km before this happened. There was not a single piece of metal anywhere around the old filter, so all of this is new.

Was that an aluminum piston?

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that's probably not supposed to look like that. :p

Are those wires too? Did your bike just commit cannibalism on itself?

Obviously the entire engine (AND the transmission if it shares the same oil) will have to be replaced. You don't seem too angry considering the mess Honda put you in. Don't settle for anything less than a new engine and trans. This is supposed to be a NEW bike. Not a remanufactured product that failed. Personally I would want my money back. Get Honda to use someone else as their guinea pig.

Yeah its a nasty scene in there. It definitely needs both a tranny and engine, the dealer is talking to Honda about that right now. I have patience, I can wait for it to be done as long as it doesn't cost me a cent. I just really like this bike, I wouldn't ask them to take it back.

I think that's like a rubber band gasket seal thing, not a wire. And yeah, grated cheese is a good comparison! It was just completely full apparently. But it still ran!

R3 recalls....Cbr300 recalls....only one that hasnt cropped up is the ninja...(perhaps a good sign?)

Kwak's went through sharp edge engine issues...in the 70's. Somebody paid attention, and taught the next two generations of apprentice's how to build engine's.

Engineers probably screwed up. i'm not hearing a lot of good things about engineers these days.

As a Tool & Die Journeyman with 15yrs experience...yeah. Don't even get me started.

LOL
Gold Jerry, GOLD!

Shush, people that make things should have no opinion on how things are made. If you were actually smart you wouldn't actually be making things but instructing the people that know how to make things how to make things and if they can't follow your instructions on what needs to be made then obviously the people making things are to blame not the instructions because you're obviously smarter because.

It isn't just the smaller/cheaper models having issues. Yamaha had a big recall to rebuild the gearbox on the current R1, for example.

Not enough time in validation / durability testing, complexity of vehicles in general is increasing due to regulations (ABS, emissions) and consumer demand (traction control and all sorts of electronic bells and whistles), and pressure to keep the price down is resulting in sacrifice in other areas. Something's gotta give.

Engineer's get a pat on the shoulder when they invent something on a computer. I'm a big fan of maths, but in today's world a 5yr experienced mechanical engineer would look at a right angled triangle and argue that the hypotenuse shouldn't be squared.

They have to install ABS for the European market, and they have to comply with Euro 4 emission (including noise) regulations for the European market (takes effect in 2017), and the same is true for everywhere else in the world that uses the UN-ECE standards. Traction control etc haven't been seen yet in the small-displacement market (and isn't really needed) but if you have the ABS hardware (legally required in EU) and you have a drive-by-wire throttle (pretty much necessary for Euro 4 compliance) then traction control is only software and a couple of inexpensive sensors away ...

Which isn't exactly true, seeing as the biggest market for these small CC bikes are in Asia. Y'know, where they're made. Like Thailand, where the CBR125 is built. I'm sure India will pass an ABS regulation one day. I'm also sure everyone that buys a 125cc bike there will ignore it. They rest of the kife gets put on either at the distributor or dealer level.

If you bought a bike that was actually made in Japan, no problem getting parts within days for the last two decades.

These small CC bikes aren't even made in China because it's too expensive, they've got parts coming from all over SE Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, India). They're still catching up to North Americans finding a demand for bikes that are banned in a lot of Asian areas for being too low class.

Why didn't you just buy a low miles used ZZR250? Hell I'm on the cusp of getting one for my daily driver and dumping my Canadian built Toyota Matrix that is an utter brake eating oil ingesting POS.

Prophetic.

Canuckistan has had the best small CC bike ever made for over a decade. It's just useful and looks too 90's.

Hey let's look at what the CBR300 looks like in it's native land...yeah, it ain't no RC30.

How about 1 day after getting bike fixed for crankshaft recall at local Honda Dealer the engine fails on the Highway 400 at full speed and the wheel locks up. lucky to be alive today. New bike bought in June 2016, less then 2000k. Take it in for recall fix and less than 20 km later it is a pile of junk.
Either mechanic screwed up the fix or replacement parts just as defective as originals. Thanks Honda Canada

Well my motorcycle accident last week and bike deemed total loss saves me from replacing this part. Oh well.

Total loss? Yikes, sustained severe injuries? New bike ideas for the rest of this season or next season? Are you dead?

My Aprilia has been in the shop waiting for parts since end of June mostly due to wait times for parts or the wrong parts showing up.

Alive. Stitches in my knee, road rash, nerve damage in my left arm. Going to a neurologist to see the severity of it. Really bad bruising on my leg, I look like a ******* kabob.
