NIAGARA-ON-THE-LAKE – A number of intersections around the Outlet Collection at Niagara and Niagara College's Glendale campus were closed most of the day Friday for a collision investigation.

Just before 9 a.m. Niagara Regional Police collision reconstruction team were called Taylor Road and Glendale Avenue for of a serious accident.

The initial investigation determined that a 52-year-old St Catharines man was riding his 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on Glendale Avenue when it came into collision with an eastbound 2009 Ford motor vehicle driven by a 72-year-old St Catharines woman

The motorcycle rider suffered life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital before being transferred to an out of town hospital in critical condition. The woman was transported to hospital by ambulance with minor injuries and has since been released from the hospital.

The intersections affected included Glendale and QEW, Taylor Road in front of the Outlet Mall, Glendale west of the Outlet Mall and the southbound QEW off ramp at Glendale.

The closures had an impact on local traffic, with the highway backed up across the St. Catharines Skyway to Niagara Street. In town streets in the area were also slow moving.

The scene was cleared just before 5 p.m.
