BROCK TWP. -- A motorcyclist was taken to hospital with undisclosed injuries following an accident in Cannington Wednesday morning.
While no information has been released by police as of yet, the accident occurred around 9 a.m. at the intersection of Cameron and Albert streets.
According to witnesses at the scene, a pickup truck heading west along Cameron was trying to turn south onto Albert, forcing the oncoming motorcyclist to hit the brakes.
“He went flying over the handlebars,” said one witness to the accident.
“He must have flew six or seven feet in the air.”
Cannington resident Jennifer Gourlie was travelling immediately behind the truck involved in the accident and rushed to tend to the motorcyclist.
“I took First Aid and CPR years ago…but you don’t expect to see a body lying in the street,” she said.
“As I soon as I saw it, I knew I had to help. I had to.”
Fearing a serious neck injury, Ms Gourlie made sure to keep the the man’s head stabilized until an ambulance arrived and paramedics took over.

"He's got a bunch of road rash and a sore neck -- he got lucky," Ms Gourlie said.

Cameron Street was closed in both directions for the police investigation.

That was me.

I was on my way home from work when I saw a pick up truck start a left turn in front of me. No room to swerve left or right, I jammed the brakes hard thinking I would probably t bone the truck. I went over the handlebars and slid in beside the truck. Unfortunately, the bike tumbled and the handlebar punched through motorcycle pants, and uniform pants and into my leg. The 'road rash' was a crush injury that the doctor was able to sew up with 11 stitches.

The other driver was charged and my insurance company paid for new riding gear and fixed the bike with no claim on my record. I am able to walk normally though I can't run the way I used to without pain. The scar is still not quite healed.

Although I wasn't at fault, I was tired and probably should have been driving the cage that morning. Also could use a little more awareness with looking further ahead (affected by fatigue) and more practice with emergency braking.

Thanks to all for your well wishes.

Good to hear you made it out of that okay. I'm soo paranoid when I see vehicles making left turns in front of me. I always zig-zag a bit to try to get their attention. Also people pulling onto the road from Tim Hortons etc. There are some mornings I feel tired too, ride in a daze, my mind wanders. But I think my nervous mistrust of other drivers has kept me alive so far.

Great news that you are doing well and recovering. We all need to be extra careful with vehicles making left turns in front of us.

Glad to hear you are doing ok and the other guy was charged.

The same thing literally happened to me last week! Road rash and stitches in my knee. SUV turned into me as I was in the right turning lane! ;( GWS rider.

Driver not charged for some reason and bike deemed total loss when the driver claims he was going 10km/hr... Which is bs!

good thing you came out ok...every time I see those idiots with spiked bar ends I just wonder if they realize they'll literally get gutted by those things if they go over the bars.
