Get out there Perseids meteor shower - big one

from VTom ( on the stromtrooper forum )

A meteor came down and broke up into three or four pieces and went right through the cloud before fading away.

That's a good one ...I've seen one on the bike....stopped at a light crossing HWY 25 at Upper Baseline and a purple one tumbled and faded...had never seen one that colour.
Numerous green ( including a monster earth grazer that many in the eastern US saw ) while I was washing dishes....it cruised the horizon dripping green fire. ( copper I think - noppe magnesium which makes sense given how it presented)

This is useful

we ARE after all, all stardust.

You don't necessarily have to track way north but it does depend on where you're starting from, the Lennox and Addington dark skies viewing area is south of highway 7 and a reasonable trip for me (maybe an hour ish) but further for you lot in the GTA. We also have a famous astronomer that either lives or used to like in Yarker which isn't that far from Kingston and the light pollution drops off pretty quickly outside of town.

I'll see lots from my backyard.in Ssauga...all you lose is the fainter ones...it's a good night for it with decently chilly temps after a rain front which takes obscuring moisture out...

Seen 3 or 4 in the last 25 mins from my backyard. One very bright one. It's probably quite good away from the lights.

Yeah - me too ...got 6 decent to one quite faint...last one was very bright goody to finish on ( moon is rising ) and one short bright one near the horizon.

That's certainly okay for an hour in Mississauga....there were indications of fainter ones.....but what I saw was satisfying - especially the last one.

While a good meteor shower in clear skies is rare ....this guy .....

hit the jackpot.

that seems a little fishy......an extraordinary sound that suddenly occurs outside makes me want to grab a golf club or call the cops...not video everything.
