My original post did not get posted due to server error and I lost my info, so trying to recall what I wrote. Most of you likely already have all of these items. I am just assembling it all in an easier to use format, even Joe Bass can do this :) I think I covered everything.

Purpose: Create a setup for any bike including bicycles that you can use an old Android phone or tablet to do it all. You can probably use this for skii/snowboarding too, just get the armband holder.

Supplies List:

  1. Android phone or tablet preferably something like a Samsung S2 or higher, an older Note would be perfect or a nice small tablet. I am using my old Samsung S3. Try to use an unlocked phone. This phone will serve as your roaming phone or could be used as a backup phone in the event your primary phone is damaged, lost, or stolen. This is added redundancy. Add a 32gb or larger micro sd to phone for music and videos. Remember you can add movies and ebook to use later at your hotel.

  2. Waterproof case for device - check Ebay- do not get the ones that screw together. It makes it harder to open the phone to access memory card, battery, sim card.
This case does the job. http://www.ebay.com/itm/311527579035?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

  3. GPS mount - Ebay, I ordered 2 of these as one states it has a thicker stem. Look for one that has 2 teeth to hold the phone, 2 teeth on top and 2 on the bottom = 4 teeth. See Youtube video here on how the mount should work. I will try to make a spiral instead of the S design he uses. You can also go with the RAM mount setup with the Xgrip ($60+ at Radio City). Or you can buy just the stem mount and it should attach to this GPS mount with the ball. http://www.ebay.com/itm/16202532799...49&var=460995394671&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IThttp://www.ebay.com/itm/16202532799...49&var=460995394671&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT Watch video to see the setup: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0evkS4HwZE

  4. 3M or Scotch brand Surelock “velcro”. Use it on the phone’s case to secure on the mount, extra precaution. Use it to mount phone on bike when you want to use phone as a GoPro or dash camera. Get it at Home Depot or Staples in white/clear/black. Buy a larger roll on Amazon or Ebay.

  5. USB charger - bought on Ebay - dual charger and it has an on/off switch. I have not received it yet. http://www.ebay.com/itm/381570771661?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

  1. Battery -Ebay, you can order extra battery for your phone, cheap insurance. You can also order the large capacity battery that sticks out a bit, remember phone will be in another case. This way you don’t have to run the USB charger if you do not want to.
    .
  2. Bluetooth Headset - see my thread here http://www.gtamotorcycle.com/vbforu...hone-Headset-Helmet-Intercom-Walkie-talkie-FM

This website is just not letting me post properly.
Here is the rest of the post.

APPS

  1. Carhome Ultra App- easy to use interface that offers a lot of features for bikers. It changes the interface of phone to work better with gloves. I will also adjust the display for time of day. It will also start/stop the app when you connect to Bluetooth e.g. your helmet.

  2. Music - stream your tunes from the phone or listen to live radio (will need to use SpiritFM app for live radio). Use a broken earphone as the antenna, cut off the earbuds and stick the jack into the phone. Most FM apps will only work when the earphone is plugged in, it uses them as an antenna also. My bluetooth headset has FM feature built in. Use IFTTT app *thanks NFQ for solution) to allow your phone to sync up with the folder you store your music in/on your laptop/NAS. You don’t have to do anything, once your phone is connected to your home wifi, it’s magic time.

  3. Photos and Videos - Use the IFTTT app to do the same for the photos you take on the road. The old phone is now a camera and video camera. Remember you have a waterproof case, take underwater pics if you want.

  4. GPS- SYGIC GPS app, it has a cool 3d function. It does not need wifi or data, the maps will be on your phone for North America (4.5 gigs). This app is easy to use and works well. It has lane assist also. Use the GPS app to see how the roads bend and twist before you get there, great for night riding.

  1. GoPro and Dashcam feature - depends on where you mount the phone e.g. side mirror you can use the phone as a GoPro or dashcam. I will have to test the Android dashcam app that I think will work well. You can use 3M SureLock (Scotch) to secure phone and to move it around the bike for filming.

  2. Google Traffic Alerts and Weather Updates - when you are on road trip and stop e.g. Tim Horton’s with free wifi then Google traffic can update so you can see what you are dealing with ahead for traffic and weather. It can also update Waze app for speed traps.

  3. Voice commands - This setup should allow you to do things with voice commands, test it and report back. It is not a priority of mine.

For you to assist with:
Is there an app that will allow communication between devices/phone over wifi or bluetooth?
This is helpful for people using different bluetooth headsets or do not have one. We can create default messages and place them as a Carhome Ultra button e.g. need to get gas or need to stop, pull over, Roger/messaged received. This way riders can send a text by pressing a button for immediate concerns. I prefer to use local apps and not incur data charges when groups are traveling. Not everyone has unlimited plans.
