Ironically, the series is basically cart before the split minus the money and popularity, and tony george is long gone from the picture.

I disagree. The split, well, split the fans, funding, coverage, etc... As mentioned in someone else's post, it also brought about the end of competition (chassis builders, engine options, etc...) and now it's a generic field... which Indycar never was.

I agree. My comment was more a point that all the split did was end up back with a single series that is a zombie of its predecessor.
