One person is dead, and another has suffered serious injuries after a motorcycle crash in Innisfil.


According to South Simcoe Police, the motorcycle and a Chrysler Pacifica collided at the intersection at around 10:30 a.m. Investigators say the motorcycle was travelling south on Yonge when it came it collided with the van.


Two teenagers were on the motorcycle at the time of the crash. On Tuesday afternoon police announced that the driver of the motorcycle, a 16-year-old boy, died.


The passenger, a 15-year-old boy, suffered serious injuries and has been airlifted to a Toronto hospital. The driver and lone occupant of the van, an 85-year-old Alliston man, suffered minor injuries.


The intersection was closed for several hours, but has since reopened.

The investigation is ongoing.

INNISFIL - A teenager is dead after a serious collision at the intersection of Yonge Street and Shoreacres Drive, Tuesday morning in Innisfil.

South Simcoe police officers, Innisfil firefighters and Simcoe County paramedics were called to the scene at approximately 10:30 a.m.

The motorcycle with two occupants was travelling southbound on Yonge Street and came into contact with a northbound Chrysler Pacifica within the intersection, according to Staff Sgt. Steve Wilson.

"The two occupants were thrown from the motorcycle to the ground," he said. "The driver, a 16-year-old Innisfil teen, was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

"His passenger, a 15-year-old Peterborough-area teen, was taken to a local hospital and later transported to a Toronto trauma centre with serious injuries," Wilson added.

The driver of the SUV, an 85-year-old Alliston man, received minor injuries.

Officers from the traffic and marine unit were called to investigate and reconstruct the collision.

Both Yonge Street and County Road 89 have now been reopened for traffic.

There is no word from police about charges being laid in connection with the crash.

Way too young to ride, the complexities in the way traffic behaves still have not been mentally modeled, should have years of experience driving a car before riding.
