What happens if an Ontario rider / driver has an at fault in the USA. The injured party wants all the goodies they typically get but our insurance doesn't cover. For example diminished value of the vehicle, pain and suffering, lots of therapy, lost wages and benefits etc.

Conversely if a US rider gets into a not at fault mess while riding up here and expects the same payouts he/she would get at home and the Ontario insurance says sorry, Ontario jurisdiction, Ontario rules.

Who gets what?

Should be just fine....worst possible scenario is that the US lawyer (since there's almost surely going to be lawyers involved, being the USA and all) find out you're a Canadian they may suddenly decide to try to soak your insurance for more than they might have tried an American equivalent since we typically have many times the liability coverage (from a $$$ perspective) vs most American policies.

Ultimately, since most of us carry $1M liability (and I carry $2M since it's only a few $$ more every year) you should be fine unless the accident is extremely serious - lifetime debilitating injuries, death, that sort of thing.

A US rider involved in a collision in Ontario gets what his US policy covers, not what Ontario law dictates, as his policy is NOT governed by Ontario rules...lol Just as a US jursdiction wouldn't lower your liability limits etc that are spelled out in your Ontario policy.
