I want to order some stuff from motoin.de (the prices seem to be better than US and local).

Any ideea on import fees for gear ? helmets for example ?

I have ordered items from Europe, specifically the UK and Italy. All orders were similar to US purchases in that a brokerage fee was added (IIRC, around $45), and taxes on the declared value.

Got hit with 13% tax and 18% duty

You will have to pay the tax on it if they open it. I just had 2 helmets come (had to exchange one), got hit with tax on one but not the other. 68 bucks on ~500 declared value.
 
I ship my stuff to a broker in Buffalo and pick it up. Larger items I pay duty and it's still cheaper, smaller purchases they're ok with. example, tires I declared but anything lower than $100 they really don't care about.

Also depends on the border guard.
