Road riding group practice

Hey peeps!

Do you know if there's a group, meetup, or whatever that does road practice? As I'm getting use with the new bike on small street, I find it a bit intimidating to take on big road and when I do, I don't feel like I'm paying attention to the rd as I'm so focus on the techniques. Lucky for me last time it happened, it was night and there weren't many cars on the road but I endedup riding on the reserved lane assigned for buses instead of my own lane...

... anyway any help is appreciated.

Thank,

IMHO getting involved in a group situation when you're still in your formative riding stages isn't the wisest idea.

Spend time in less busy areas - industrial parks on weekends are great - plenty of roads, corners, parking lots etc etc with very little or no traffic to worry about where you can practice until your heart's content.

Others may feel different, but in my opinion one shouldn't be riding with a group of other motorcyclists until after such time that you're not "thinking" about things that should be coming automatically, as well as not not ibeing intimidated by traffic and sharing the road... and that comes with practice, practice, practice, but it should really be solo practice at the stage you describe. ;)

Did you take a motorcycle course to get your M2? I remember some of your posts but don't remember if you did or not.

Just keep riding man, don't bite off more than you can chew. When I first got my bike I mostly rode at times when there wasn't much traffic, mostly at night. The more you ride the more comfortable you get, I'd leave actual organized group rides for later.

Just keep riding around man, be safe!

Stay off groups but maybe find an experienced rider you can tag with. That's the pattern in Australia for new riders for 3 months. Must be escorted.

If you can't hook up ( maybe putting your location in your post would help ) - then what private piot suggests. You just need saddle time without a lot of distractions.

Yeah OP, I actually found it more stressful / difficult if there were other bikes around when I was first starting out. (Truth be told, me and another bike or two, is the most that I like to ride with).

at this rated you'd be ready for that s1000rr in a few weeks.

Did you take a riding course? If yes... take it again.

Hey TJ,

Thanks for your advice. Yeah that's what I started doing this past week, riding on small streets on late evenings in my area and practicing manoeuvre a mall's empty parking close to my place and slowly built up from there. I will leave it as that until I feel comfortable chewing for more :)

My advice is stay away from group riding until you are comfortable, but maybe finding a friend to ride with (so 1 other bike) might not be that bad of an idea, as they can point out anything they notice as well.

Also, I do know some schools provide a refresher/road course for anyone interested...I think it was around the $150 mark.

lol, **** me :lmao::lmao:

Why not meet up at 403/Dundas Timmies?? We'll hold hands, drink tea, tell each other fairy tales and go for a little joy ride around the parking lot because I think that's what you really need...

In all seriousness, you admit you can't even even stay in your lane let alone pay attention to the road and you think its a good idea for others to be riding in your vicinity?? Please stick a dunce cap or something to the top of your helmet so I know to stay the hell away!!
There is no need to be rude, someone is just asking for help, when you had no experience I am sure you also asked for things that didn't make sense to others.

Yeah, they're called track days / racing schools
I think the person is just asking for someone or a few people to take them to practice on a group setting since they don't feel safe doing it on their own. I think track instruction is out of context here

OP depending of where you are located, if you need help I can come out depending if I am available.

Nah, dude came out of the womb, cut his own umbilical cord and was ready to take on the world.

Its funny because I just had a kid and sometimes I wonder how can nice innocent babies become murderers and/or ******** in the future.

Jeez, some people are so mean-spirited and hateful. Glad I don't ride with those guys...

OP, good for you for asking for help. Ignore the rude d-bags; never fear asking questions or seeking assistance from others when you're not sure, especially about something like riding a motorcycle. I might suggest posting in the "New Riders" forum where such flaming is expressly prohibited.

Good advice, a bit of one on one with an experienced rider who's watching out for what you are doing right and wrong will do more for you than trying to keep up with a pack of vest wearing Rossi's. I've taken a bunch of new riders out, all felt that rolling classroom was good for their skills. Post up a location and see who bites, if you were in Niagara I'd volunteer.
