Pilot project to allow 3 wheeled vehicles. G license required.

http://www.680news.com/2016/05/27/n...-come-with-a-number-of-rules-and-regulations/

There’s a new class of three-wheeled vehicles (TWV) on Ontario roads and York Regional police want to make sure their drivers are aware of the rules regarding them.

TWVs are a distinct class of motor vehicle, separate from passenger vehicles, motor tricycles and motorcycles.

They a cross between a motorcycle and a car.

To legally drive a TWV drivers need a full G licence or higher.

“You cannot do your drivers licence test on this,” Staff Sgt. David Mitchell explained. “You need a motorcycle helmet to be operating one of these vehicles.”

Drivers with an ‘M’ class license alone are prohibited from operating a TWV under the pilot project.

Some of the other legislation regarding these vehicles includes:

Only federally-approved TWVs designed for on-road use are permitted to participate in the pilot. Current approved models include: Polaris Slingshot and Campagna Motors T-Rex 8
Current HTA rules of the road and penalties apply to the driver/vehicle owner
Participants in the pilot project are subject to Ontario’s mandatory seatbelt requirements and must use an approved motorcycle safety helmet
Passengers who are classified as an infant, toddler or pre-school to primary grade child are not permitted to ride in a TWV
TWVs are prohibited from being used for an MTO road test
Sidecars or trailers are not permitted to be affixed to a TWV
Drivers who do not obey the rules can be fined from $250 to $2,500.

Interesting. That may help open the door for Elio to bring in their three-wheeled enclosed-cabin vehicle, tentative MSRP of $6,800 USD. Linamar of Guelph will be producing the 900cc 3-cylinder engine for that one.

How is it different from the Spyder?
3 wheels is 3 wheels
Spyder= M class right?

Looks like a job creation project for Polaris but once they open the doors better products will hit the market.

I used to follow this. Good to see there's new hope. I would buy this or similar. That $6800 US price has held steady for 4-5 yrs. That's great.

Well... the Spyder is ridden upright with handlebars, like a motorcycle. T-rex is driven like a car.

Yep the T rex has been available for Ontario roads since April 1st.

Sadly i was looking at buying one, but since the annoucement of getting the green light here in Ontario the prices have sky rocketed.

I don't get it. I've seen T-Rex on the road for a few years now.

With insurance policies starting at $10 grand....

My neighbour back in the UK had a reliant. We teased him a bit about it but it was cheap transport. Big bonus was that if it needed repairs a couple of blokes could lift it as the shell was all fibreglass. The odd merry jape was had by getting a few people to carry them away from where they were parked etc. When they went round corners fast they also "got a knee down" which meant leaving bits of fibreglass everywhere.

That's the fuggliest thing I have seen.

I dont understand the appeal at all. I wouldn't pay $2500 for a T-rex. They're junk. People actually spend $50k+ on that ****?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that you'll need to wear a helmet while driving one of these things, which I can't really understand why since many t-rex's have roll bars, seat belts, full windshields, etc...

Come on guys, reverse trikes like the T-rex are going to be the closest any joe's going to get to driving an open wheel formula car on the street. Judging by the symbiotic relationship between real racers and wannabe racers these should sell like hot cakes. That's just an expression. I have not seen anybody buy a hot cake.
