No kidding. Honestly the best FZ1 ever was the first one, in my mind. It had a very specific purpose in life: be a really fast, comfortable couch that will also handle well enough to be faster than you should be going on any given road. This new bike is a me-too super-naked slotted in on the bottom of the pile and priced at near the top. I'd bet that BMW's S1000XR is probably quicker and more advanced in every way... and it's targetted right at what the FZ range once was. At performance, Aprilia's bike has them all in a headlock, even the KTM... and it's the same price as this new Yamaha.

Tuono is known to be a comfortable bike?

The new one is fairly comfortable. The older one is ... not quite as much.

When you say some bike is slower, not as advanced electronically or a bit heavier what does that really mean tho? So every bike that's all of the above has no merit? What if you you dig the crossplane crank sound and feel? I haven't ridden a 4 cyl. in years but by watching R1's chugging off the line like a twin the FZ10 is the only bike in that category I'd consider.

If you're buying the bike in the same market and for the same price as a bike with more advanced capabilities (and better looks), then that's on you, but it isn't the wisest decision. It's going to be a personal bias driving you there (you like Yamaha, for example). Otherwise, well... what more can I say, you're buying a lesser bike for the same money.

As for the crossplane, sounds a lot like a V4. But the Tuono *has* a real V4 .

Hahaha... you sure about that?!

Ohhhhhhhhh that backfired, amirite?!

For your effort, here's a stock Tuono Factory winning a KTM Cup "Open Thunder" race. I'm betting they didn't expect "Open Thunder" to be so precognitive when they named the class.

50-something rider on it, too.

Oh, a shootout. Well then. Righty, I forgot what was important there for a minute.

You are listing the Factory, which has full Ohlins suspension and the RSV4 tail. The FZ10 doesn't even come close to that one... the forks are a higher spec than Ohlins FGRT series, which are about $6K in Canada. They have Ohlin's best 25mm C5/R3 valve & shim stack with compression mid-valves, anti-topout springs and nylon spring guides to reduce friction.

This is the bike you compare, cost-wise and purpose-wise.

I haven't had an issue with parts.

Looks more like my buddy Vernon when he waited 15 weeks for Yamaha to source a head for his R1, since they had used every spare in North America for warranty claims already (no, that is not a joke). ;) But hey, it was kind of cool that the head they found was out of Graves Yamaha racing team after the season finished... well it was kind of cool until a rod started to knock a thousand kilometers after getting it back... and the bike went back in for another 15 weeks for a whole motor replacement.

Oh, BTW... there's maybe two race classes that anyone cares about, it seems... the one they're racing in and MotoGP.
