Day 5 Nova Scotia

This is what I have so far after about 3 hours of planning. Looks like I'm going to end up going by myself too. Any recommendations to make the itinerary better so I don't get flustered when I'm down there?

Don't overplan your time. Rushing for a ferry or a reservation is horrible.

I live on Prince Edward Island at the moment, and have made this trip a number of times.

Nova Scotia in a day (Advocate Harbour was a highlight)

One of the best routes I've ever done there and back, so it's worth checking the maps attached to this one. Yes, it avoids Montreal, but I'm more of a Adirondacks Mount Whiteface kind of guy. :p

Cabot trail, make sure you take the time to visit Meat Cove at the Northern most point of the trail, and feel free to take all the paved back roads on the south end of the island. They are so much more fun that staring at the arse end of a caravan. Cabot Trail south into Halifax, look at 16 and coastal highway 7 into Sheet Harbour. A beautiful run on a bike in July.

Have a blast and give me a shout when you are on the bridge or ferry and I'll stand you to a coffee.

Geez boots...that's a very aggressive schedule - have you actually done multiple long distance days on a bike??

800 km on the slab plus sight seeing !!!!????

You also take a big risk of animal hits east of Montreal at that time of day ....let alone in New Brunswick.

If that's in a cage ...it might be okay ....I've done Cape Breton in 24 hours but it's pretty brutal..

It's a cage. Don't have a bike atm. I don't mind driving the car for long distances. It's comfy and fun. Longest I did was about 10 hours on it straight. No issues of being tired. This is when I did a muskoka loop

which muskoka loop?
35 -> 118 ??

Tied that in on my Cabot trail and PEI motorcycle trip last year. I have a cottage around there so we ended with riding Muskoka for 2 or 3 days.

I've done it on the bike too it's a little unnerving with the unexpected gravel in the middle of the roads but I still enjoyed it.

If you do the cabot trail loop at sunrise you won't have traffic to contend with. I started at 5 something one morning around Margaree (going clockwise) and saw 8 vehicles before I got to Baddeck for breakfast (none going the same way as me). I was in the clouds for most of the east side though, I am not sure if the sun would have burnt off the moisture if I had waited.

i did it on a sunday or monday..fairly sure it was a sunday..., went for breakfast then hit the trail...ide say probably around 10 or 11 am and only hit traffic in a construction zone and stuck behind van going up mt smokey.

oh cool - nice trip in a car. North end through the hills is wonderful.

some terrific sweepers ...and go down to Meat Cove and do a whale watching run.

As the days approach I seem to be a little more organized regarding the itinerary. One question I have to ask is, do you guys book the hotels in advance, if so how many days in advance. I've got the hotels lined up, as well as 2 nights worth of camping.

Give them a call and see. Depending on time of year and where you stay, a lot can already be booked.

See what they have for modified or cancelation policy. I'd book in advance if you already have it fairly locked down.

It's easier to change or cancel when you already have a booking.

Do you have to pay in advance by any chance or does that depend on the place?

Are you doing this alone? If so, have you considered air bnb?
And to answer your question, usually a deposit is required.

I'm doing this with a bud from my other work.

I've checked out air bnb but is that something you can use as a last resort say if all the hotels are booked? Can you book the day of? I'm assuming it's like the Uber of staying somewhere overnight.

Iirc @MacDoc said he would pull into a McDonald's (free wifi) an hour away from his nightly destination and search air bnb.

Sweet I'll check it out. I'm going to get a Canada wide data plan for the trip but I'll use WiFi if I absolutely have to.

On a side note I was scavenging around for places to go in PEI and I street viewed something and saw some ghostly translucent photographers. Lol.

That's often too late - motels yeah - not AirBnB - they need more notice. AB are best planned stops - we based out of one near Wolfeville and stayed 8 lovely daysin the Annapolis valley.
Never hurts to try tho for short notice but I'll take an AB over hotel/motel in a heartbeat.

https://www.airbnb.com/s/Prince-Edward-Island--Canada?s_tag=pG3OfE46

as you scroll around the map - what is available changes and you can burrow in and see more plus where you are staying in detail

We booked 5 days here
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/6168852?s=JpETvxb6

And ended staying 8. Annapolis Valley is significantly warmer than elsewhere on the East Coast this time of year.
