A Suzuki recall

I saw this on social media this week. Don't think it has been shared here yet.

Recall #: 2015605
Models Involved: 2013-2014 Suzuki Burgman 650, 2013-2014 Suzuki Gladius 650, 2014-2015 Suzuki GSX1250FA, 2013-2014 Suzuki GSX650A, 2013-2014 Suzuki V-Strom 650
Number of Vehicles:
1664
Problem: On certain motorcycles, contamination between the valve tappet and cam may cause the hardened surface of the valve tappet to peel if the surface shape of the valve tappet is convex. This would allow the inner part of the valve tappet to come in contact with the cam, which could cause both the valve tappet and cam to wear, increasing the valve tappet clearance.
Correction: For motorcycles with odometer readings of 4,000 kilometers or greater, dealers will inspect the tappet clearances and will replace the valve tappets and camshafts if the valve tappets clearances are greater than the specification. For motorcycles with odometer readings of less than 4,000 kilometers, dealers will replace the tappets and camshafts, because the tappet clearances may be within the specification at low mileage even if there is abnormal wear.

Since I have a 2013 V-Strom 650 that might be a part of this recall, what next? Do I wait for a recall letter to come in the mail and bring that to the dealership?

Sounds like I get a free valve check.... too bad I just got one in the fall, not 3000km ago on the odometer.

This reads like Suzuki has almost stumbled upon a design for self-adjusting valves

The Suzuki FAQ ( https://www.suzuki.ca/en/faq ) has a link for that kind of question. Give them your details and VIN, then hopefully they will get back to you. As an alternative, you could just contact the dealership. No idea which approach would give you the best result.

Yep, I filled out that web form and they've already responded saying my bike is part of the recall, and they will be sending out the letters next week. I will then be able to book an appointment at the nearest Suzuki.

I really regret paying for that valve check out of pocket in October... although I did get a few other things done at the same time.

The two closest Suzukis to me are Ready Suzuki in Mississauga or Brampton Powersports... out of those two, which has a better service department?

You could also take your bike to Keith, but he's at Keele and St.Clair. He can do warranty and recall work on our bikes.

Got my letter this week. 2014 Wee, just bought new in August. Havent had a valve check done yet, only at 3000km. Guess ill be taking it in when the weather improves.
