A 39-year-old Hamilton man is dead after a crash on a motorcycle with a car in the east end Thursday night.
The scene on the Queenston Road overpass at the Red Hill Valley Parkway reopened sometime after 3 a.m., police said, following hours of investigation by the Hamilton Police collision reconstruction unit (CRU).
Traffic was shut down on the on and off ramps of the overpass for several hours following the 8:30 p.m. collision.
The motorcyclist was rushed to Hamilton General with no vital signs and was pronounced dead in hospital.
The driver of the car, a 26-year-old Hamilton man, refused treatment at the scene.
"No charges at this point," said Staff Sgt. Brad Clark early Thursday.
Clark was not able to give more details about the crash as the CRU is still investigating. Police say alcohol was not a factor.
It was the second crash Thursday that involved a motorcycle and the CRU.
Just before 7 a.m., emergency crews were called to Regional Road 20 and Woodburn Road on the Stoney Creek Mountain after a head-on crash between a bike and a pickup truck.
At last update, police said the motorcyclist in that case remained in hospital with critical injuries. That stretch of road reopened several hours later.
This is the city's 13th traffic fatality of the year.
Witnesses who have not yet talked to police are asked to call Detective Wes Wilson of the CRU at 905-546-4755.
