Moderator, can you make this thread sticky so it becomes one common place for the dirt riders to share route and track files? I have loaded some in my dropbox account and will post links below.

Also, for those who do not use a Garmin GPS unit but have an Apple or Android based device, here are some suggested apps to help you view and even edit GPX files in those devices:

Apple: http://www.gpxnavigator.com
Apple: https://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/gpx-reader/id543308129?mt=8
Android:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.vecturagames.android.app.gpxviewer&hl=en
Android - multiple apps reviewed, you choose: http://appcrawlr.com/android-apps/best-apps-gpx-tracks
Blackberry: http://www.blackberryapk.net/Blackberry/Download/blackberry-10-APK/GPS/GPX-viewer.aspx

Terra Nova Tracks (the Hockley Creemore routes touch on some of these but this one has more forest riding and is focused on the Terra Nova area itself - some great single track here too and some good water / mud holes):

TCAT (Trans-Canadian-Adventure-Trail system thanks to Ted Johnson of www.graveltravel.ca) - this is literally how you ride from all the way from our eastern coast all the way to the west coast with less than ten percent pavement. Yes, for you adventurous types with weeks and weeks of time - this is literally how to traverse Canada off road. Years of compilation and collaboration with riders across Canada have created this gem of a collection of routes - all split up by province and documented with fuel stops, obstacle and challenge indicators, POVs along the way, etc.):

Can someone else please click on my route link above and let me know if you can view and download it? It's a Garmin GPX file.

Thanks

Your dropbox worked for me (and I don't have an account to sign-in). Thanks! Great idea for a thread.

Awesome, thanks. I'll go back and post up other routes with as much detail as possible so people know what to expect from each trip route apart from just the tracks themselves. Let's get the moderator to make it a sticky for all of us.

More routes / tracks loaded for you guys. Look for updates to the one post with all of the file links - I will add commentary to them in the near future; things like the terrain you can expect on the routes, fuel and food suggestions, average time for completing the routes, big or small bike friendliness, etc.

Again, these are best used with a Garmin GPS, especially one of the off road or handheld hiking models. Please keep in mind that many of the route sections will not be visible on your Garmin if you are using strictly street mapping on your Garmin. Ideally, you want to use the Ontario Backroads Maps loaded on your Garmin but if you setup your Garmin to follow the routes and not try to steer you onto the actual roads, you will be able to follow the highlighted route lines in each loaded route to navigate off road. If you are not using a Garmin and will be using an Apple / Android / Blackberry device, please see my post with the links for free GPX and GDB file viewers - again, these will work just fine for you as long as you use them as GPX viewers rather than using your navigation apps as they will constantly try to steer you toward pavement / marked roads. You can always contact me directly for help if you need.

Thanks Alon. This is much needed. Sticky it Mods!

Nam - riding Sunday and Tuesday!

Re: GTA area dirt / gravel riding routes and tracks plus GPX viewer links

I'm surprised Mike hasn't chimed in on this thread yet, he was looking for something like this.

Re: GTA area dirt / gravel riding routes and tracks plus GPX viewer links

And he ditched me yesterday to ride with a bunch of old guys in hi-viz gear :)

Re: GTA area dirt / gravel riding routes and tracks plus GPX viewer links

I might ride tomorrow morning, but thinking of just taking the vstrom out on a short pavement ride since I have to be at work at 330.

If I took the DRZ up to Creemore by the time I got up there I'd have to turn around and come back to make it to work on time.

Alon, I'm still trying to picture who you are? Weren't you on the Creemore aggressive ride on your 530? If so, I was on the white drz and I have a beard, I led us out of the track leading down from the lookout. Unless you are a different Alon.

I don't remember meeting before. Could there be another Alon on a KTM 530? Just call in sick - work will totally understand when they see the weather forecast :) maybe we met at the mill street pub on the Creemore ride...I remember seeing Bruce there briefly.

Re: GTA area dirt / gravel riding routes and tracks plus GPX viewer links

You can see Alon in the video I posted. Bring the DRZ!

Re: GTA area dirt / gravel riding routes and tracks plus GPX viewer links

Bad influences, both of you.

Anyway, I can't afford anymore sick days so I'm out. Maybe if Saturday or Sunday is decent I'll be up for a ride on the drz.

I've got a bunch of work to do in that bike now anyway. The front tire is done, the chain is very slack and can't be tightened any more, and I don't know how I did it, but the expander that holds the left hand guard to the bars no longer holds, so it needs to be replaced as I've taken it all apart and can't figure out why it won't hold.

Re: GTA area dirt / gravel riding routes and tracks plus GPX viewer links

Let's hope this coming weekend is decent as well - I'm not ready to pack it in for off road riding this season.

Nam, make sure you bring your scuba suit tomorrow - trails are wet and since you did so well last time, you won't need any help this time, we'll also pick up the pace quite a bit so you don't get bored :)

Re: GTA area dirt / gravel riding routes and tracks plus GPX viewer links

HI Alon, I tried your Dropbox links and none is working. I wonder if they are still available. Thanks

Re: GTA area dirt / gravel riding routes and tracks plus GPX viewer links

I just tried it on my iPad and it seems to work for me...I'm currently in the UK until Friday but I'll try to access it with my laptop later to see if there's a difference and if yes, I'll see what I can do. Worst case, I can email you the ones you want.

I just checked a couple and they worked fine - an issue on your end perhaps?

Re: GTA area dirt / gravel riding routes and tracks plus GPX viewer links

Ok. Thanks. I'll try.
