I see so many entitled pedestrians that I rarely bother to post them anymore.

Cuz really, what can you do? Can't do jack.

The 'me' generation srsly needs their ***** handed to them once in a while.

Makes me wonder if anyone nowadays is actually taught to drive. One of the first lessons I got on the highway, was if you missed your turn, go to the next one and turn around. That was supposedly a professional driver.

Some newer cars have a collision-mitigation system that automatically applies the brakes after an impact to hopefully reduce subsequent impacts. It's not a bad idea. An impact can throw the driver's feet around in addition to messing with the driver's mind.

That would suck if, say, you were rear-ended onto live train tracks, and you were then unable to quickly move the car out of the way of an approaching train.

Most of these driver-aids are introduced to make-up for an existing lack of driver skill, when ultimately their introduction to the market will result in driver's not needing to learn essential skills at all.

I'm betting on the "hitting the gas instead of the brake" theory in the above video.

Is the license plate and cab number clearer in the original video? You should report this to the City of Toronto.

I tried cleaning it up as much as I could but, unfortunately, the exposure and reflection from the plate blurs the characters too much. The cab plaque is completely white too.

There is a risk assessment and balance of probabilities associated with all such systems. The probability of being rear-ended at a traffic signal or stop sign and being subsequently shoved into cross traffic is greater than the probability of being rear-ended at a train crossing and end up on the tracks at precisely the right timing to be able to drive away before the train hits. In the first case (more common by far) it's better to have the system hold the brakes applied. In the second ... you are on the losing end of the balance of probabilities. In any case, it's pretty easy to have the software recognize deliberate driver actions after the impact and let the driver take over after he comes to his senses.

Airbags are the same way. Even considering the infamous Takata airbags that explode too aggressively after they have been aged - This failure mode has killed something like 8 people ever worldwide. There are known risk factors even with properly-functioning airbags. How many have they saved in the meantime??

I like my Mobius helmet cam so much, that I bought a dash cam version (wider angle, capacitor powered) for my truck.

Not too exciting, but a lady just rolled out in front of me from a side street - had her cell phone stuck to her ear:

I need to put a rear cam in my mom's car. I'll bet there would be a lot of that on it. Smh
Unbelievable how one person can be so oblivious to all the damage injuries that they could have caused.

Corolla? If so, it's the most feared car on the road.
