Long Island, NY they've installed HOV-3 lanes, and motorcycles need to go 3-up or pay a toll to use these lanes. Interestingly the U.S. Federal Department of Transportation requires motorcycles into the HOV lanes for free.

The U.S. Code governing HOV lanes — Title 23, Section 166 (23USC166) — states agencies that govern HOV lanes must allow motorcycles to use the lanes unless they prove motorcycles pose a safety hazard on the lanes, and that proof is accepted by the U.S. Transportation Secretary following a Federal Register notice and public comment period on the ban.
Why can't the provincial government pull their heads out of their arses, and come to the same sensible conclusion?

The U.S. also has a strong groups, AMA (American Motorcyclist Association) which actually push for changes like this: http://www.dealernews.com/dealernews/article/ama-statement-motorcycles-hov-lanes-nyc

Who is representing us in Ontario? Canada? *crickets*

Well if you look at this site there are a lot of people who deride attempts to make the case for it, or just plain make excuses. BRO Ontario was at one of the motorcycle shows with a petition and almost nobody seemed interested. Nobody is going to do it for you. You have to join an org and work to make it happen. It is an idea that makes sense, but when your own people aren't on board, you are bound to fail.

Agree. Look at how bicycle lobbying groups have made gains - and cyclists in Toronto are only about 1.3 to 1.7%. But they make a lot of noise and raise awareness. Compared to cyclists, there is almost silence about motorcycle safety and accessibility. Most people shrug off motorcycle accidents as being caused by bad riders instead of focusing on making things safer and encouraging riders. A concerted effort to raise awareness is way past due. It is as simple as people writing to the mayor, their municipal councilor and Minister of transportation on a a continued basis. Wake up everyone!
