Semi-synthetic for break in?

No they don't, well not toyota anyway.
Most new toyota vehicles are leaving the factory with 0w20 synthetic now.
First oil change is at 8000kms, no cutting oils or break in oils.
Machine oil with florescent dye. Why? It's cheap. The florescent oil tells them that you're not doing your first oil change at 25,000 km's.

No they don't.
I'm a master tech at a toyota dealer and have never heard of such a thing.
There factory oil filters are marked and that's about it.
Factory fill on new toyotas is 0w20 and it's not break in oil.

Same with Honda, florescent dye is for oil leaks.
I can just imagine a flat rate tech having to break out the dye gun for every first oil change lol.

Honda and Toyota still use cutting / machine oil with florescent dye added to make certain you follow their break-in schedule.

As stated here, follow your manual.

.... Lol when was the last time you was told this? 91

Jesus.. It's spelled fluorescent. It's fluorescein added to oil or coolant.

It's rarely used in some production runs where they suspect a leaking problem at the factory. They give the engine an inspection under UV light, as new oil or fluid is clear and difficult to see on a new engine. It's a very good way to quickly detect even the smallest leak.

I guess we can agree to stick to the manual

Yeah, I never understood why people would not... You have a book written by the people who built the machine, oh, **** it, ill just ignore them because I know better.

Just follow whatever it says if you have a question. If you dont care, do what you want, but dont ask for the best advice because the best advice is written in the manual...
