Have to splice the wire bundle to ECM to extend. The wires appear to be 18ga. I'm going to patch in about 18 inches of 16ga. Does anybody think that will affect the operation?

Nope, shouldn't. The flash-tune kit comes with an ECU extension harness, so shouldn't be an issue for only 18" of extension.

Edit: D'oh, now I realize a cleaner install would be to eliminate the pin connector altogether, using individual spade connectors. Yes, the pin connector is cleaner but can't get thru the small hole for the wires in the event of disassembly for future service. All that splicing last night for nothing. I sure hope the spade connectors don't interfere with sensitive electrical juju.

Spade connector + water + time = bike problems.
Make sure your connections are water proof, maybe use heat shrink tubing?
