Re: Craft Beer: What are you drinking now??

    Happy international beer day! (yesterday)

I enjoyed a few beer tonight. In celebration of international beer day I started with Delerium Nocturnum . https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/180/1421/
One of my favourites, and really makes me think quad (though it's a strong belgian dark). A beautiful smell, rich, yeasty, bready, candied sugar, caramel, and tastes the same way. So much beautifully integrated complexity. The associated sweetness balanced by the strong alcohol and beer backbone. I recently was able to pick up a bunch more and am very happy.

    From there I went to a WV 12 . https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/313/1545/
Amazing beer, and often described as the best; very rare. There is a great story with the beer, discussed earlier for those interested. I immediately found it to be like the Delerium Nocturnum but just.... more.... More complexity, deeper taste, more goodness. This one has been aging for a while now and the greatness is showing.

For those into these type of beers, what do you like to do with the sediment? Leave alone or re-suspend?

A worthy combination and celebration. Cheers and happy international beer day to all. May you all enjoy a beer or two.

Had the 2016 Great Lakes Imperial Bout Vanilla Coffee Stout today, amongst others...12% and VERY tasty.

Been drinking A LOT of Bellwoods this summer too.
Had the Omerta, Psidium, all the Monogamy, and all of the Milkshark releases in the past few weeks.

Zipped past Arabella Park Beer Pub in Waterloo yesterday.
Have about 14 different ones on tap and a lengthy list of ultra premium craft beers ($40 for a 750ml bottle).
Atmosphere was good for the middle of the afternoon, and the staff was quick and courteous.

Fly Monkey smashbomb atomic IPA. Enjoy other craftbeers but stick mostly with a strong IPA.

Can anyone recommend anything at the LCBO similar to Bellwoods "Jelly King"? I love it, but hate spending $6.50 a bottle when I drink so damn much of it!!! I also wish Bellwoods would have some sort of loyalty program, that rewards you for spending a small fortune in their brewhouse :P

come to think of it there's hasn't been a single brew that I didn't like from Refined Fool. They also do a limited runs and it's best to either call them or see their Facebook page.

I just went downstairs in the house to get a great beer (was particularly in the mood) and what I saw makes me want to celebrate .

Put a Delerium Nocturnum and Tremens into the fridge for next time and pulled out a Black Ridge Brewery Golden Collaboration Belgian golden strong ale. I feel very fortunate that we in Canada can get world class Belgian beer locally, on top of all the other great Canada craft options.

Nocturnum criminally underrated here , see the Bros score

Is it me, or does everyone seem to be trying to get onto the Funky name bandwagon, rather than make good beer?

Re: Craft Beer: What are you drinking now??

I dunno, I have had many really good beer with funky names. To be honest, I have had some with some real stinker labels and names which were outstanding.

And like you say, I've had the opposite.

Re: Craft Beer: What are you drinking now??

Craft beer has from the very beginning been associated with some wild names, nothing new here.

The name of the beer has no correlation to quality. Many of the best craft beers in the world have funky names, and many don't.

Opened up that Delerium Nocturum tonight. Excellent. And decided to follow up with a Duchesse De Bourgogne. Another belgian beer, lol .What a beautiful beer, and one of the flag bearers for the Flounders red ale style.

Flanders Reds are commonly referred to as the "red" beers of West Flanders. Belgian Red Beers are typically light-bodied brews with reddish-brown colors. They are infamous for their distinct sharp, fruity, sour and tart flavors which are created by special yeast strains. Very complex beers, they are produced under the age old tradition of long-term cask aging in oak, and the blending of young and old beers.

Hit up 3 newish local craft breweries yesterday.

Started at Godspeed. Excellent beer offerings and the Japanese food was delicious.

Next up was Saulter St Brewing. Only 1 Pilsner availabile that was mediocre at best.

Finished at Eastbound Brewing. Great beers. I loved their Porter, and the APA.

Re: Craft Beer: What are you drinking now??

If you get a chance, try out Wild Card Brewery in Trenton, ON. Totally worth it. They have several beers which I have never sampled anywhere else, a very particular undercurrent to most of their beers which I'd call sweet - might be lactose, I dunno - but it really works in their beers. I haven't had one that I didn't think was excellent, and I've had a few.

Won't find them in the LCBO, you'll have to find them in a bar/pub or the brewery.

That Stone sounds great. Which one? (there are 6)

I think I know, but I'm not sure. I've enjoyed a bunch of their really great Russian Imperial stout offerings and have a few of those cellaring.

Re: Craft Beer: What are you drinking now??

Niiice. I thought it was the IPA version, which has ~8X the number of reviews, rather than this much rarer unfiltered IPA version.

It's a 3 beer day for me, but just great beers that are good value and common. Starting with a Big Rock Traditional ale. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/391/2045/
My go to mainstream beer. I liked the earlier Big Rock Trad reference.

Next beer will be a Red Racer IPA. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/10321/49058/
An excellent IPA and value..... ever available locally for the last number of years. This talk here was the impetus.

Next will be a St Ambroise Oatmeal stout. https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/194/2704/
The last one is a beautiful strong stout, and good value as well as available locally for a long long time. Stout >>IPA imo.

I've been tempted by that Stone Russian Imperial Stout for a while actually, but I've been practicing restraint.

    Cheers
