Craft Beer: What are you drinking now??

Ya, St. Ambroise is very different from Guinness even though it's the same general style. I don't know many Irish stouts and BA doesn't list that as a style, but I've had similar English stouts and porters (which are listed as BA styles). So much choice out there.

Opened up a new beer for a special occasion recently. Vicaris tripel gueze, a Belgian abbey tripel.

Very good. Malty, fruity, twangy. Should be rated higher IMO.

Cheers and have a great weekend.

There's a definite style. Irish stouts in general are a little more bitter with a nice creamy head. Hand pulled Guinness is hard to find these days but worth searching out...the nitro injected stuff pales in comparison. Murphys is a tiny bit sweeter than guinness which is why I like it (it's definitely not a sweet beer overall though). Not sure if they use peat to roast any of the grains too which might contribute to the taste. Porters are good too, the heads don't seem as creamy but the taste is chewy, dark, complex.

Unibroue a tout le monde... belgian hints, but on the lighter side (for a belgian) and i love it.

Had some Dragon's milk and OMG it's heavy but so smooth..especially for the alcohol content. I gotta pace myself with it or itll kick me in the butt. And i'm also gonna go buy another 2-3 bottles while they still have some left ahah

They sell Dragon's Milk at gas stations and corner stores in Michigan. :)

Another belgian. :)

Rochefort 10. Crazy ratings and I agree. One my top two belgian beer choices, both being quads, and easily top beer for me. More boldness in the flavour than WVXII, with concurrently interesting and unique flavours and profiles throughout the taste, but at the loss of the super silky smooth flavour profile of WVXII.

Both Rochefort 10 and WVXII are amazing top beers for me, each with a definitely and uniquely outstanding flavour profile.

For you uber beer lovers this bottle was cellared, being near 8 years old. And here's an interesting article literally discussing the merits of fresh vs aged Rochefort 10 belgian quad beer, :).

Nice!!

Had the Rouge River Danksters Paradise dipa, Big Rig Disruptor iipa, and Second Wedge Sweater Weather dark saison tonight.

All 3 were tasty.

If you like big IPA's, the Danksters Paradise does not disappoint.

Where do people source their hops from around here?

They seem to grow pretty well in Ontario if you have green fingers.

Yeah, a neighbor was growing his own, but sold his house and moved to San Diego to open a brewery there. I don't think the new owners would appreciate me hopping the fence to steal some hops. I'm going to look into local suppliers for the Spring, but wondered if anyone has used/bought some successful ones? One place was recommending rhizomes for starting out.

Then again, it might appear to be a weed infestation to the new neighbors.

Also been drinking stuff from this startup based in Manchester - Cloudwater. A friend of a friend is part owner. They went from zero to world-class in like two years. Their session IPA is godly and I'm not even a fan of IPAs.

These folks were just ranked 5th in the world in Ratebeer's Top 100. #bowdown

A year later, they're up to 2nd best brewery in the world: https://www.ratebeer.com/ratebeerbest/BestBrewers-World2018.asp

Y'all remember to sample a bottle (or twelve) next time you're across the pond. It's pretty widely available, in the UK at least. Unreal stuff.
