Mods feel free to move the technical sections however as its a safety issue i think the general for exposure would be best.
Hello folks This info via the Ontario Vstrom owners group on Facebook a design issue with the 2012+ DL650(Vstrom) has been identified that could potentially lead to odd electrical issues and at worse case Fire or sudden engine stoppage.
On the Left hand side of the Bike to the rear near the seat there is a cross beam. The main wiring harness runs over this crossbar however due to what seems to be a poor casting this cross bar has a rough top surface and is likely to rub against the main wiring harness during normal operation of the bike rubbing through the protective covering on the wires and may lead to shorting out or arching and becoming a fire hazard.
Please check your bike in the following locations. It is suggested that you protect the wire bundle with rubber sleeving or place something around the cross bar to prevent future issues.
