Omar Khadr Gets Bail... A War Criminal? A War Victim? Which is it?

Fifteen-year-old child warrior, who from his point of view was fighting against foreign invaders. How does one get charged with unlawful murder for killing an enemy soldier who was part of an attack force attacking you and yours with deadly force in a war zone? Whatever happened to POW status?

I'm fine with him getting bail during his appeal. A POW would have been sent home years ago. Hell, a POW would never have been charged for killing enemy combatants in such circumstances.

His family maintained residences in both Canada and in the Peshawar tribal region, and Khadr received much of his education in Peshawar. Prior to the creation of Pakistan, this region had been part of Afghanistan, and even now the tribal and family lines in the area don't really take much note of official border between the two nations.

Kahdr was the local, the Americans were the foreign invaders much like the Russians were the foreign invaders before them.

How much does one need to know about the specifics? In light of all the bloodshed and atrocities from both sides it's kind of rich to see parliamentarians get up and make hay on the back of a 15yr. old soldier. That kind of righteous indigestion should be reserved for social media.

Why should we pay to house and give medical aid to his family who hate canada and fought on the talibans side?

Yeah so what . What does that have to do with the rest of his family. Their Al Qaeda training, the fact his father was killed fighting as a Taliban ,their hate of the west and the fact they are on welfare in canada and his brother who was injured fighting with the Taliban receives full medical care from us. You ok with that?

I'm just looking at the individual. He was 15 yrs. old. Did he even do what he was accused of? We're talking bail after 13 yrs.

He is a piece of crap and so is his whole family. If you think 15 is an age when you don't know what you are doing you are seriously out of touch. What age do people start to know right and wrong in your book? 16 17 18 35.?

Hey you had to "survive" boarding, he was in a war torn country. Did I mention he was 15yrs. old and is declaring his innocence? That he had to make an impossible deal? What deal did you make to survive boarding school? Did you have ride in a car without matching numbers?

This person was in a situation where things can be murky. A search for more answers is never a bad thing, not sure if releasing him is the answer.. but.. check this out...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On July 27, 2002, Christopher Speer and a group of four other soldiers on reconnaissance patrol were injured during a firefight upon attacking and forcibly entering a building in Khost Province, Afghanistan.[SUP][1][/SUP] SFC Christopher Speer was part of a squad assigned the task of going through the ruins of the building after it had been destroyed by F18s dropping 500-pound bombs.[SUP][7][/SUP]

The injured Speer was evacuated by air to Bagram Air Force Base and then to Ramstein Air Base in Germany, where he died on August 6, 2002.[SUP][1][/SUP]
The incident received widespread attention as fifteen-year-old Toronto-born child soldier Omar Khadr, a Canadian citizen with Egyptian and Palestinian ancestry, was captured and subsequently imprisoned in Guantanamo Bay as Speer's killer.[SUP][8][/SUP][SUP][9][/SUP] Khadr later pled guilty to, among other crimes, the murder of Speer by throwing a hand grenade during the firefight.[SUP][10][/SUP] Due to a lack of eyewitness evidence,[SUP][11][/SUP] the claim that Khadr threw the grenade relies heavily or solely on a confession extracted through coercion at a US prison camp at Guantanamo Bay.[SUP][12][/SUP]
Prior to his plea of guilty to Speer's murder, Khadr became the focus of several legal disputes. On February 4, 2008, American officials accidentally released an unredacted version of sworn testimony which — according to Khadr's lawyers — showed that Khadr was not responsible for Speer's death.[SUP][13][/SUP] In January 2006 Colonel Morris Davis, Khadr's prosecutor, in statements to the press, said that Khadr owed his life to American medics who stepped over the dead body of their colleague to treat Khadr's wounds. Speer died from his wounds on August 6, 2002, at the age of 28.[SUP][14][/SUP][SUP][15][/SUP] However, the accidentally-released sworn testimony revealed that medics dressed Speer's wounds before they dressed Khadr's.[SUP][16][/SUP]

Yes this situation is a murky one and I'm sure we don't have all the details...however, in cases where it's a clear cut situation I don't understand how this country does not revoke the citizenship of those who leave to fight for the 'other' side....

they clearly make make a decision to fight on behalf of others against our side, and then when **** goes *** backwards they call crying to Canada to help rescue them....THEN they have the balls to call out how Canada is bad because we don't help them return home. When I was 15 I definitely knew what was right and wrong. But I also did not have militant parents forcing my hand.

There was a case years ago where Canadian citizens with dual citizenship to Palestine or other country were yelling that Canada wasn't sending enough ships to take them out of war zone....YOU chose to live in a war zone wtf do you want? Stay there if Canada was so bad you left to go home.

Actually it was lebanon and not palestine.. and it was not a warzone .. untill the war started.. AGAIN.. just some clarification. .. its important to distinguish...

Netanyahu could kidnap a newborn baby.. by raping and murdering a palestinian/canadian new mother... continue on to caniballizing the baby one limb at a time all on prime time television.. harper would still call and congratulate netanyahu for defending israel from terrorist.. . So yes its important to distinguish between palestine and everyone else.

As far as omar khadr is concerned. .. laws need to be uniform/equal and fair... if omar khadr is a war criminal for defending his actual residence from armed attackers carrying out the ultimate war crime (aggressive war... nazis did the same) then by law every invading soldier who killed a afghan (taliban or otherwise) is also a war criminal... remember NATO killed alot of afghans (not just the taliban) who weere the rightfull govt of afghanistan... the argument here as i understand it is they are shitbags were are heros.. this is only true if we were defending the innocent and the weak, protecting law and order... etc. ..

All the EVIDENCE point to the contrary...no open /fair court of law has ever seen a shred of evidence pointing to ANY wrong doing or direct involvement in sep11 by the taliban.... the question we should be asking is. Who is the defender and who is the offender... what are we becoming?

The moment we become the oppressors.. we become the problem...

why do you think at 15 he is a baby incapable of making decisions?
and AGAIN him and his whole family are pieces of crap who should be thrown out of canada or better yet the planet. Here is some nice info on his mommy.

Born in Palestine, Omar Khadr's mother moved with her husband and six children to Afghanistan in the 1980s. She returned to Canada in 2004 to seek medical treatment for her son Karim after he was injured in the same firefight that killed her husband. Elsamnah claims to have no association with al-Qaida, but admitted that when the planes hit the World Trade Center in 2001, she thought to herself, "Let them have it." She was also quoted as saying that she took her family away from Canada in the 1980s because of "drug addicts" and "homosexuals."
kepp defending this crap INREB and just keep paying taxes for this garbage to mooch off us and stay here.
