Nothing to flame you on. Did you notice the Rav4(?) braking behind the minivan? Good indication something is off. Either way that was a stupid turn for the minivan to take....especially from the middle lane. That's what the off "ramp" to Yonge is for.

Rewatching it, the van was in the left most lane at 0:19, which is where I lost the van in my field of vision and re emerged at about 0:21:75. You're right about the Rav 4, when I saw that brake flash and approaching the intersection, I was covering my brake.
It might have happened too fast in real time for me to notice that van at 0:19 from the left lane initially. How I stopped in 2 seconds in that distance from approx 85km/h is beyond me.

Nope, that happened about 15 mins later where I almost got t-boned by someone running a red light.
I put the bike away after that. I don't like today.

Have you never passed anyone on the right when the lane next to you is completely empty while the lane you're currently on is backed up?
If I were to be in the right lane to begin with, would it have made a difference?

Buddy I'm far from perfect, but in my 15 years of being on GTA roads, my first reaction would have been to slow down and have my finger on the (brake) trigger expecting someone to jump out in front of me. This happens almost every single time during my morning commute where some moron just HAS to change lanes because it seems to be moving faster.

I did slow down. I stopped accelerating as I was approaching the intersection with my finger covering the brake as I saw the suv braking. You're describing 2 completely different situations in moving traffic vs stop and go traffic as well as the fact that it was no lane change, the car was practically perpendicular to the road, in the middle of the road, in an intersection making a right turn where you're not supposed to in the first place.
I think the idiot would be the one hitting their brakes approaching every intersection on an 80km/h road with no one in front. Probably a good way to get rear ended.
Might have actually been worth following the driver and maybe when they're stopped at a red light. Pull up beside them and make sure you get their face on camera.
Toronto Police are very interested in charging drivers if there's video evidence available, and you're willing to show up to court. Even w/o video, as long as you can identify the driver 100%.
York Region not so much, but they will send the driver a roadwatch letter.
I had dashcam video of a driver pull out of a private driveway into my lane, TPS wanted driver details; but I didn't get a good look at the driver.
TPS couldn't pursue a charge, but the investigating officer went to the owner's home and cautioned them about a possible charge. Even showed them the video, and the owner admitted it was him; officer let it go with a warning.
Toronto Police are very interested in charging drivers if there's video evidence available, and you're willing to show up to court. Even w/o video, as long as you can identify the driver 100%.

This is clearly an unsafe and improper turn. Had there been a collision (fortunately not the case) the driver would likely have been charged with careless driving.
I see this situation frequently when running an escort, or when responding to a call with lights and sirens. Often, there will be an open lane or shoulder to the right of a lane full of traffic. When I'm overtaking on the right, I limit my speed to no more than 50km/hr faster than the traffic next to me, because people are crazy and you just never know what they'll do. So if the lane is stopped and I have a clear lane adjacent to the traffic, I will be cruising at 50km/hr. It seems slow, but your stopping distance (reaction time + reactionary gap + braking action) is longer than you think.
As mentioned before, the brake lights on the Toyota are a good indicator that something's happening. Even just the way the cars are bunching up near the intersection is an indicator. At first I thought the traffic light was changing until I saw the bonehead in the Caravan.

Hey bike cop some questions
if he had pulled out one second later and clipped the op on the side as he was passing and killed him. She would be charged with careless driving right?
What if some some bystanders pulled him out of the car and put a beating on him? They would be charged with assault?
Or
What if the OP had followed him to the next lights and beat his ass... So that MAYBE he does not do this again, cuz we all know he will.. What will op get charged with if the judge sees the video of what happened prior?
Or
If the op had gotten the licence plate on camera and went to a police station. Would the police just send out a letter? And if so is that enough to stop him from doing same thing?

I find that interesting. Last year when I was hit by a driver who was in the left lane and made a right turn into me, while trying to turn onto a street where turning was not permitted, no one wanted to see the video. I mentioned it to police on the phone at the time of the collision, police at the collision reporting centre, and my insurer. No one.
