Running the Vehicle while using an Air Compressor

The manual for my Slime portable Tire Inflator (mini electric air pump connected to the motorcycle battery) says "DO NOT run the vehicle while compressor is operating. Engine must be turned OFF".
It seems to me that it would be better for the motorcycle to be running so the battery is getting charged and also that I'd have a way to get going again in case the battery was drained too low to start the bike after filling the tire. Other than the risk of accidently knocking the bike into gear while working around the tires, what would be wrong with starting up the motorcycle before turning the air pump on ?

That's just their way of covering their butts if something goes wrong.
If it's in writing they are safe and can say we told you so.
Yup - exactly.

Your battery should be able to run the little pump anyway, without running the bike...
Or use a car battery - even one that's inside a car. Or run the pump directly off a battery charger (not a teeny one - check the amperage involved).
It's more like 3 grand plus, before most bikes are charging with any enthusiasm...
