GoPro questions

Thanks for reading.

I can't afford the hero4. period.

so i was looking at the original hero or the hero 3 white. both within my budget. anyone have any experience with these things?

also - does anyone wear the camera somewhere other than the helmet? I am too on and off the bike to be worried about its placement.

any feedback would be great, as I know no one who owns one.

Girlfriend bought me the Hero 4. I'd never spend that kind of money on something like a camera. I MacGyver'd it onto the chin bar. GoPro's are freaking awesome. Got some great videos on the bike and car already this season.

I have an older HD Hero, with a 16GB card in it. On HD resolution, I'll get a couple of hours of video. The battery will die before I come anywhere close to filling the card.

I usually mount it on the bike somewhere (Rear spool, rear footpeg, frame slider, beside one of the mirrors.... Most often with the handlebar mount, or rollbar mount). I find it's more than adequate for recording, viewing, then deleting video that is always nowhere near as cool as it looks in my head when riding. :)

It's fine for what I do, which isn't much. If all you want is a basic camera, it works quite well.

Personally I'd stay away from the base cameras...video quality is not there by today's standards. The mid-range however (think Hero 3 Silver, which is essentially a Hero 2) should be fine if you plan on shooting 720P.

That said, I also have a Drift HD Ghost, and find myself using it more than my GoPro since I like the form factor better for helmet mounting. Video quality is a little under the GoPro (I think it records a slightly lower bitrate), but it is still decent, and I think the camera has been on clearance so you might be able to get a good deal on one. B&H Photo was letting them go for around $200 USD iirc a few weeks back as part of a sale.

I have a Go pro hero 2 with the remote control. Works fantastic. I love it! I had some great bike footage and look fwd to the underwater stuff on trips.

I have the first GoPro.

I usually mount it on my Helmet, and have mounted it above my rear license plate facing backwards, and on my Fuel tank facing forwards. I have used the included mounts as well as the suction cup.

Mounted on Tank:

Mounted above Rear Plate:

Why don't you want to mount it to your helmet?

Also used it on a few occasions with my car.

I have a hero 2 and the Hero 3+ black with remote. I also just picked up the bacpac battery and case so I can now get about 4 hours of recording time. I don't use 1080p as there is really little difference in playback mode and 1080 eats the battery much faster. I have a ram handlebar mount. I used to have it mounted to my helmet. But not risking the ticket for having it attached to the helmet, (see the law sub forum on the case law of the registered convictions for helmet cams)

I have the Hero2. In addition to helmet mounting, I have used the chest mount which I think gives an interesting perspective, but it depends on the terrain and ergonomics of your bike. It's great for dirt or gravel roads where I'm standing on the pegs. I also have a radar shelf mounted on top of my dash that allows me to film forwards or backwards facing me. I also have a mount on my top case which allows me to film riders behind me. I have also taken it scuba diving and it was pretty decent. I also took it hiking in the mountains of Uganda to film gorillas and that worked out well too.

I have great footage of PA roads, done the scuba dive thing with it, and some great footage of knee deep powder out west snow boarding. I wish I had one years ago when I used to skydive and when I went heli-sking. Most recently we use them dirt biking at trail tours.
Problem is when you're done you have a ton of video to edit though. I keep it at 720p.

Check the sd card you have make sure it is a class 10. Also look at the video settings should better if not as good as the older Hero2. My Hero3 is leaps above the Hero2 even at 720.

Have the hero 3 white.
I find the video quality very grainy. My hero 2 was better.

Don't think I would say cracking down but there have been at least three convictions, (as reported here, could be more), and a precedent set in the Ontario courts. So when I got my new lid, I never bothered mounting the mounts, why draw unneeded attention. If they can't get you on anything else this could be a "fall back" charge.

Oh. They crackin down on that now?

so i was looking at the original hero or the hero 3 white.
Neither of them do 1080p60, why get it when everything is going to 60fps?

This camera just came out, does 1080p60, should be similar video quality to Hero 3 white at twice the framerate: http://www.ibuygou.com/p-pre-order-xiaomi-yi-sports-camera-6620.html

If 60fps doesn't interest you check out the Mobius camera. I've never seen better image quality out of a camera in this price range: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1080P-HD-Min...601?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3384160899

You can get a tank mount for your camera, even power it right from the bike so the battery in the camera never dies! http://www.kapscomoto.com/SearchRes...rch=Y&Search=tank+mount&Submit.x=0&Submit.y=0
