The Car Thread

Been meaning to start this ever since the new Ford GT was released and I wanted to get some of your thoughts on the issue because it was very divided when they went the whole eco-boost way.

Plus, there have been a bunch of different discussions going on in other threads and rather than going to different threads to see car posts, it would be sweet to see them in one.

Anything goes. Post whatever car news/opinions, I love talking cars.

Just watched MotorTrend's head2head on the Porsche 918 vs Mclaren P1 and I wasn't surprised from the result. The AWD and extra torque pumping out of the 918 I saw it coming (especially from street tires). It's impressive from the 918 but realistically if I had to choose between the two I'd go with the P1.

One of my favorite car vloggers "ThatDudeinBlue" said something pretty true as well in the comments section of this video.

"Ferrari can hate me all they want- but what a bunch of babies. You develop a car that you hype so much about the performance and experience for a million bucks and then decide not to let any journalist lap it? That's just being silly. And dare I say coward from your competition?"

And it's true, why the hell are you gonna boast about the LaFarrari and not lap that thing at all? Starting to remind me of Lamborghini and how they have these show cars that don't go past 60 km/h (Sesto Elemento, Veneno etc).

I also watched this yesterday and the great filmography aside, driving that Aston on that road must be perfect.

New mclaren 570S is another cheaper model that makes me really confused by their marketing strategy as their new car sales and used depreciation are just awful

Just go with the new NSX. Legendary Honda reliability and quality. Holds resale value. Dripping with latest technology. Fast enough than anyone would ever need. Great deal at $100-150grand.

The Ford and all the other supercars are $200++++, questionable reliability, crazy expensive parts, and for some models, piss poor resale value.

New Mercedes technology for 2016... NOBODY, can touch this..... Dryve clean...

Steamatic technology Dry Cleans your clothes as you drive! AMAZING!!

^ still waiting for a heated trunk in audi wagons. Would make sleeping under -20 much more comfortable.

Talking about supercars and the first examples are ford gt and acura nsx ahhaha smhh end thread right there

New Ford GT is spectacular, styling is incredible, and I think its cool they went the V6 route, its something different, and its where automotive is headed. IMO, smaller displacement forced induction engines are gonna cap off the internal combustion era.

Ford in general has been making exciting cars lately.. Fiesta and Focus ST, now the Focus RS, the new GT, Shelby GT350R with a flat-plane motor... yikes, sign me up! Things are looking good for them. GM kicked *** with the new Vette, that's a lot of car for not a lot of money. Cadillac is doing nice things too.

Drove the new Vette and it's a great car. Good value. Haven't found anything yet that would get me out of my 911.

I went to last years autoshow interested in the ATS but I really dislike the interior. Then I sat in the Regal GS and fell in love. The only thing stopping me from owning one is GM's track record right now in reliability (I've also spoken to one recent GS owner personally who's engine destructed for no apparent reason with under 10,000k on it).

I'd also love it if Mazda would build us the Mazda6 wagon they've shown and put a naturally aspirated engine in it strong enough so that I can pull my 2-bike trailer.

THe things I'd do for a viper.

You sir have great taste in music..... but a viper? Hmmmm lol

Nsx = lolz

911 over either any day of the week. The new ford gt while a cool design is insanely overpriced. After a 911 gtrs it would be the huracan for me. Hottest looking new car period.

I still want a s2000 but the value on these things are just dumb. I'll probably get a gti or wrx 8 years newer for the same price as a s2000

Don't forget the new hellcat. It's been a big couple years for cars

Ahhh, the Hellcat Charger. That one is calling my name.

Peel off the badges, get an unassuming colour, and you have the sleeper sedan of the century.....

There's something nostalgic about the viper for me. I grew up playing test drive back when I was 6-8 and I remember loving the blue and white colour scheme.

As I grew older I learned more about cars and I think I've appreciated vipers even more than I used to.

RWD, Massive engines, amazing sound, raw power and.... comes in manual. Matt from "The Smoking Tire" did a One Take episode on it and he absolutely loved it. They're scary cars in the wrong hands

Vipers are the Hayabusas of the car world (cept vipers are a little more visually pleasing to the eye) -- just pure, untapped power waiting to be released.

These were the vipers that did it for me

EDIT: I too think if the Ford GT is any thing over 150,000 (it will be) it is too much. Realistically, the car should be slightly more expensive than the GTR, but not to the point that it's out of it's class...

I, personally would go for the Challenger since it comes in a stick version. That's just me of course. Sucks that if you went for the Charger, you're not even getting a dual clutch. That's the only downfall of it. I'm sure it still shifts quick though.

I'd love an S2000, I still see a couple of them around from time to time. The price on them, as you've said, is a little ridiculous for the KM's some people have on it (which are most likely hard KM's).

I picked up the closest thing to an S2000 last year (2015 Scion FRS -- though it would lose in a race vs a S2000) and its still just as fun. Looks great too. And hey, for the money I'm given a warranty with it as well, though Honda motors are pretty reliable.

I saw a mint condition ford escort the other day and this thing didn't have a spec of rust on it. It was driven by a 90 yr old lady doing about 1/2 the speed limit, barely able to see over the steering wheel.
