Many of you guys know most of this but I got some ideas from it.
I like the "low cost" approach.

Some of these ideas can be applied to any touring situation ...off pavement or not.

Feel free to add your own tested tips - preferably with pics. :D

I found it kind of funny that I have pretty much every single farkle that he has, aside from the lighting as I don't ride at night unless I am on a major highway.

The one addition that I add to my kit bag since the DRZ has a small battery, weak alternator, and no kick start (stock) is a lithium jump starter -- which I haven't tried yet as I just bought it for my car winter emergency kit: http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/noco-genius-gb30-boost-lithium-ion-jump-starter-0111909p.html

Good idea tho I just use a lithium based battery. Much lighter. Not good in the cold but 3 year warranty. Got tired of replacing batteries due to heat issues,

Cheap mods I am happy with are the addition of tractor manual canisters on the bottom of my side cases, they sell them on the Touratech sites etc with healthy markups but you can get them from a tractor supply company for very little. They are just big enough to hold a 1L gas canister for a camping stove or emergency fill up on one side, and a tool kit, gloves, medical kit and flashlight on the other.

edit: here's the link $5 http://www.agrisupply.com/manual-canister-large/p/67670/
