I habve to disagree. Liberals are also the "opposition" but in reality all they do is flip flop on these issues and end up getting behind the Conservatives eventually.

If you watch the question and answer periods, youll see how Tom Mulcair goes in tooth and nail while the Liberals (also opposition supposedly) sit quitely or make an obligatory appearance and then go quite.

Again, no one can forsee the future but the NDP has been doing more than just pay lip service to Harper which is more than anyone can say about the Liberals. Yet they are both opposition.

My point was that they are all taking our rights. Just because Mulchair runs around like a rabid dog doesn't mean he isn't after your rights as well.

PS, there is evidence the NDP are no better, don't be fooled by all the barking.

So this got passed today

What evidence? Back up your statement.

This is truly a sad day for Canada and our so called democracy/freedom of speech/expression!!!!

Thomas Mulclair wants to outlaw gun ownership. If you don't own a gun, at least take solace from the fact that as it stands right now you have the freedom to own one should you ever need it. Freedoms are easy to give up, and very hard to get back without a fight. I'm against C51, it is too far reaching and make no mistake it will be abused to probe into the private lives of us online no matter what anyone says.

Couldn't this be contested in the Supreme Court as being unconstitutional?

Recently they struck down a law that imposed too harsh of a sentence.

+1

I wonder what apocalyptic event they are preparing for... war with China/Russia? End of oil?

Looking back when Japan bombed Pearl Harbour, the Canadian Government rounded up all the Japanese Canadians and put them in camps.

Seemed like the reasonable thing to do at the time.

No matter how you look at it, it was a terrible over reaction to something that was horrific itself.

You would think in this day an age, we'd know better.

Unless we organize ourselves to let put pressure on the government, this stuff is going to continue.

I heard about this long time ago from "change.org" and "sumofus.org", I told everyone i knew, posted on social media outlets etc etc. But this day in age people dont care, they rather just eat mcpukes and watch tv.

No real change will occur until we cant eat and home ourselves. These governments just have to do small backdoor deals and label them as "patriot act" and other ********. Eventually we will have no rights at all and most people still wont care. When i bring things like this up at work i get responses like "well, what do you have to hide?" or "it will help catch terrorists/child pedos" or "well, we cant do anything, its just the world we live in".

I have a handful of friends that actually agree with me and we are all labeled "crazy libertarian prepping paranoid conspiracy theorists". Everyone else doesnt give a ****. Just look at how many of these threads barely generate any interest vs the rest.

Even out of the ones in these threads, how many of you actually contact your Mp's about things like this?

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.

Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

The quotation stems from Niemöller's lectures during the early postwar period.

Niemoller spent 7 years in a concentration camp.

Canada is starting to sound like a Hollywood doomsday script.

Witnesses and plaintiffs just disappearing. Black SUV's and helicopters everywhere. Phones and computers bugged. Government privatizing the prison system.

Hate charges against a boycott makes no sense...Even if you are boycotting their products for purely anti-Semitic reasons its still not a crime...

By Harper's logic, noycotting the South African Apartheid back in the day would've been a crime too. This is beyond ridiculou. This is becoming a fascist state now!

Many of us including me do not oppose the existance of Israel. In fact, i support it. I oppose the illegal settlements and occupied land plus their war crimes.

Harper is actig like a gang leader!

Like allot of other things I think the supreme court would overturn it i doubt it will get passed its ridiculous on its surface.
