Motorcycle hitch carrier/towing

can you actually have a Class III or higher on the Escape? I ask, because I had a Mazda Tribute, which essentially is the same frame and it only supported a class II hitch. That bazooka of a muffler on the GSXF /Bandit series wheighs a ton too ;-)

Mind you, there are some threads here with a hitch mounts for bikes on the ear of mini-vans.. There was a discussion here last year about hitch mounts.. not sure if you can find it?

this could also work..

with this type of set up do you need the bike's brake lights to come on?

essential is your bike acting as a trailer itself?

Exactly, Technically speaking if your towing even a flat bed trailer which sits such that your vehicles tail lights are visible then the trailer need not have operational tail lights. Not a smart idea though. But in this case no lights are required.

Would you need to red flag the bike when towed as a trailer as it sticks out more than 4'? Or do the reflectors on the rear of the bike cover that requirement? TIA.
