Reliably, Reasonably Price Tires?

Anyone want to share their secret or knowhow as to when/where to get new rubbers before the season starts and hi demand drives prices up?

Is it better to go to the US and pick them up, or are there some GTA gems to provide our loyalty to?

(Looking for Michelin Pilot Street/Road 3s for my '10 250r, 110/70 & 140/70 in 17")

The search feature works very well on this forum. Don't waste your time driving or riding to the US for tyres you can get at the same price or cheaper here. It's not like 4 wheeled vehicles. 22" Pirelli Scorpions here approximately 400 per tire not installed, in Lexington, Kentucky 105 installed per tire. Fortunately we have some great shops here in Toronto with great prices. Cheaper if you bring in the rims, instead of bringing the bike.

Before our Canadian dollar hit the pooper hard, I used to have tires sent to a friend's place in the US and would meet up with him (once or twice a year, since I was go for visits to Chicago anyways) -- would save about $85 per set of tires that way. Since our dollar's decline, I would now only save about $15. And for that, I'd rather support a Canadian business.

Pete's Superbike - only shop in Canada that comes anywhere near the US pricing.

Two Wheel Motorsport gives GTAM members a discount and their parts pricing is very good. Got tires there last time because it was the same price as the US (with less hassle).

It's also worth mentioning that they don't make the tires you want in your size.

whos that? pete's?

the OP said :

Anyone. The PR3/4 is not made in that size. I wanted to buy a set and had to find something else.

if Michelin's are not available in your size

They released a Pilot Street Radial for small displacement bikes a couple of summers ago (2013). I run 110/front and 130/rear (stock sizes) on my 08 250R. Excellent tire.

I had Pro6 in Etobicoke offer to match prices I found on Canadasmotorcycle.com, and wicked cheap install when I just brought the rims in.

I tried to go the cheap route and got some from new startup shop in China, problem was the tires were oval.

Maybe not PR3/4, but they've got the set up I want.

I'd like a PR 3 for the front, and PS for the rear, and pete's got them.
If anyone has something to recommend for a small bike like the 250R, I'm looking for something similar to the traits that a 2CT tire would provide for longevity and exceptional wet condition performance.
I've already had the front wheel slip out on me before (Leslie, downhill just before the intersection at Eglinton in slow, morning grid lock) but I think it's because I'm running some more slick road/track oriented Pirelli, no sip-ing on them at all.

@YZFer, I just pm'd you to see if you wanted to compete for my business

Thanks for the input all!

Also comparing Bridgestone's DTC (dual tread compound) to the two-compound tread tech from Michelin with these tires. I also threw in sport demon since someone mentioned them.

I will keep this in mind.
I've been seeing people say it's cheaper to just bring in the rims and get the tires installed... but the thing is, other than the family car, I don't really drive much.
I'd rather not haul my tires on the back of my bike or on transit.

I also don't care much for the paint of my rims, so maybe I'll just let Toes crank up my bike and do it in a 'jiffy'?

You can often have the tires shipped to the shop. In my case, the online price was matched, and because they were ordered by the shop, I didn't have to pay a shipping fee. The tire change is almost always cheaper when you bring just the rims in, but you could ride the bike over to the shop (with apt.) and keep yourself busy for an hour or so, before leaving with your bike on new rubber.

Chiming in on the Pilot Streets... Sport Demon is not a bad tire, but it's ancient

I went with the ContiAttack or ContiAttack 2 (can't recall which). Seem pretty good. If I recall Continental uses a continuously variable compound rather than just 2 or 3. Rode with a box full of parts and both tires to a shop. Not sure why just 2 tires is a problem.

How'd you do that? I mean, I've got some ratchet ties I can tie the new rubbers down to the rear seat with. Then I can just hi tail it to toes who'll probably do it for $40... and maybe even give me a beer

I bought my last tire (PR4 rear) from Pete's Superbike. Checked Canada's Motorcycle and their price was close but a bit higher. Two Wheel wanted more than both. Rider's Choice (closest to my house) about the same as Two Wheel.
I install tires myself so I avoid the drama of who will or will not install tires bought online. However, anything more than $30-40 off vehicle for a pair is a rip off. Motorcycle tires are not hard to break down or put on. Taking the wheel off the bike is what is time consuming compared to a lug nut system a car has.
