What Are You Currently Listening To?

I'm surprised there isn't much EDM posted. EDM is the #1 music style in the world (not in NA). Here's my latest EDM contribution to this thread.

Solomun. He's big in the deep house scene (not the mainstream top 40 stuff). I've been listening to him ever since I went to the Riveria Maya BPM festival a few years ago. This is a newer release by him, it's filmed in an ancient Roman theater and is a 2 hr set. The video is very well done.

I'm pretty open I'm my musical choices, but I don't voluntarily listen to EDM. I just don't get it.

@kwtoxman that’s one of my favourite sets by Solomun on YouTube. If you don’t know him, Maceo Plex is also pretty good https://youtu.be/5vHRUsP20dQ
Thx! I'll check him out. If you don't know him, check out Lane 8. He's a great deep house artist as well and not as well known, typically with 20-40X less views. Lane 8 is on Soundcloud and I've been posting some of his sets here.

My favourite Solomun set is Diynamic in Playa Del Carmen 2015. IIRC it wasn't on Youtube for years, but just popped up in the last 4 weeks or so. Unfortunately it's not HD. I do have a high resolution video file of the set. My friend enjoys the Solomun Boiler room DJ set on Youtube. His other Diynamic sets on Youtube tend to be good as well. I got a lot of sets from BPM through Be-at.tv which has now moved to Youtube. Check out their channel. I enjoyed a lot of sets at BPM and downloaded them some years back since many have become unavailable. Other deep house EDM artists I've enjoyed include Nitin, John Acquaviva, Lauren Lane, Richy Ahmed, Dennis Ferrer and Art Department.

@Joe Bass, it is what it is and you're not alone as not all music appeals to everyone :). I love the vibe a great set creates, good artists bring the crowd up and down with the music a number of times. A good EDM set is great multitasking music as well.

Cheers

I'm currently listening to Solomun's 2018 Belgian set on my HT while I watch the NFL Chiefs/Patriots on the big screen TV (muted). The Solomun video feed is on my computer concurrently. I love the combo of live sports and good music :agave:. Real time sports commentary is far overrated :).

Thanks for the recommendations, @kwtoxman! I’ll check out the artists you mentioned. I’m familiar with Solomun’s boiler room set, as well a number of his sets at various years of Tomorrowland.
I’ve been listening to a lot of Kangding Ray (https://soundcloud.com/kangding-ray). He’s more Berlin techno and maybe harder to get into, but some of the podcast mixes or live sets on his soundcloud are more accessible. I’ve been to 2 of his shows in warehouses in Toronto and they were both great.
Modeselektor is also from Berlin but they’re all over the place in terms of musical styles. Each of their albums are pretty different, but this one was from their last album https://youtu.be/k8XSV-qoHDQ
Unfortunately they haven’t come to Toronto. They came with their side-project Moderat a number of years ago. It was a good show, but nobody really knew them here. This one is from Moderat’s 2nd album https://youtu.be/3NPxqXMZq7o

The grateful dead on a beach in Mexico somewhere, via my daughter. Lucky brat!

Been on a Reggae/Ska kick lately...

Wanderlust and motorcycles are synonymous ;-) This is where my head is at and the roads don't oblige at the moment ;-(

@ljtenko, thx for the links. I've gotten to a few now. That Maceo Plex link and set was nice. LOL at hearing an Art Department song from 2015 at 45 min; funny overlap to my earlier recommendations.

I'm just beginning to listen to some Kanding Ray from your link. Many tracks have only a few hundred views. I went with this older track first with 10k views and it's a winner. A very nice ambient techno track.

His other stuff I've sampled is more traditional techno. Not as much my style but I'll take some time and sample more. Thx for sharing.

So much music out there. I see lots to enjoy. Cheers

Will give this a listen. We've always got music on in the house and car and frequently have Deep House/Vocal House/Chillout sets playing. Having the right audio gear is key.
