Rider fatality near Blackstock

A 45-year-old Oshawa man suffered fatal injuries as a result of a motor vehicle collision in Scugog Township yesterday.

On Friday September 19, 2014 at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers from East Division were called to the scene of a motor vehicle collision at Regional Road 57 and Regional Road 19, in Scugog Township.

The collision involved a red Pontiac van and a red Suzuki motorcycle. Evidence and witness statements indicate that the motorcycle was travelling southbound on Regional Road 57 approaching Regional Road 19. The red Pontiac van was westbound on Regional Road 19 and pulled out onto Regional Road 57 into the path of the southbound motorcycle. The driver of the motorcycle struck the rear passenger door of the van.

The driver of the red Suzuki motorcycle, Mitchell HUNT, age 45, of Oshawa, was pronounced at the scene. The driver of the Pontiac van was not injured.

Members of the DRPS Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to conduct an investigation. The roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
