Video: Reflective Rim Tape and Night Ride Test

nice vid....something I was going to do as well, put on rim tape, just have not gotten around to it...

just curious, would it not be safer and more stable if you put your bike stand paddle's ahead of your axle, as opposed way at the back end where there seems to be very little room, a slight bump and the bike could come off the stand ?

Your vids are very useful to guys like me! Thanks for doing them.

Cool stuff. If you want to make it look brighter, consider adding white LED's under your bike near where wheels are. If you do it properly, it will look like light is constantly shining off the rim tape and it will kind of give a tron look to the bike.

Nicely done! I wanna do this to my bike too. What's the eBay link where you purchased the rim tape from?

I saw this LED type lighting on some cruisers this summer. I thought it looked cool, plus added visibility. Was thinking of doing it to my bike.
Added with BrownBrady's rim tape would definitely give the tron look. +1

@GateKeeper: There is quite a bit of room behind the axle. If I put it ahead of the axle, I will have less leverage. But I can try it next time.

@DDean: Thanks, I'm glad you find them useful.

@sash: Thanks! You bet!

@Chhai: Thanks! I think your autocorrect is mistyping my screen name. :D

@Boots: I would put LED's but wouldn't make them illegal? I'm not sure. :confused:

@Peck: Here's where I bought them from for $2: http://www.ebay.com/itm/17-Reflecti...r-/221480603414?ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123

@nearance: Sure, I can create a follow up video at different angles.

@Joe Bass: Thanks!

And again, thanks for watching my vids and for your positive feedback. If you have other advice, please feel free to comment on the YouTube channel itself so that people who don't go to this site can also read them. And thanks to those who subbed! :razz:

Great job with the video.

Nice video. I like to use the left over scrap pieces as mini reflectors on the rear tip of the swingarm. Headlights from the vehicle behind you will illuminate them and increase your visibility. It looks decent too.

dude. just watched your vids on youtube. pretty good and very informative.

on the exhaust video, your neighbourhood looks exactly like mine. you're from Durham, correct? where exactly in Oshawa, are you?

Looks great man. I purchased a roll of red 1/4" pin stripe tape from crappy tire. Its not reflective but I think it looks good. I love that bike in white which is why I will get that colour when I upgrade to the cbr500r next season.

PS I love to see white tape around the wheels on the white bike.
Keep the videos coming.

Hi guys, nothing special, just sharing my video of me installing my reflective rim tape for my CBR250R and then tested it on a night ride. Thanks for watching.

Installing rim tape isn't rocket science (no offence intended) and normally I would just pass this by and go on to the next topic but I did watch it and liked your video. You present well. Carry on.....good job.

@Wolverine29: Thanks, I like this bike in white too, I think it looks great.

@MLadin: He/she probably has LED's under the bike?

@gamma1: Thanks for the positive feedback and I'm glad you liked it.

@AF4iK: Here's what I did to my left over rim tape:

Very nicely done. Good, clear narration, good video.

That would do nothing. The way reflective tape works (and street signs) they reflect direct light back to the source. You can test it yourself, walk around at night with a light source near your eyes and look at a stop sign. This works at any angle. Now get a friend to shine a light at a 45 degree angle and you'll see a HUGE difference. It's called Retroreflection.

Here's a better explanation
