In the past, Arai had many of their helmets fail the performance test required by SNELL (it is a separate debate whether this is good or bad). More money spent on helmets is mainly correlated with weight/quietness and look. Almost none of the extra money affects protective ability.

I'm not gonna live down that comment, am I.

I own and wear everything from an el cheapo Biltwell Gringo to a Bell Vortex with the side vents taped up to an Arai Signet-Q and an AGV GP-Tech. Most of them bought on closeout. I am the ultimate value shopper.
