Near Omaha now, PCH, quake, and weather. PCH riding advice needed

So given the advice I got from the great folks here I decided to ride to Northern Cali instead of LA and go South on the PCH. I am currently near Omaha, NE. and reading about the Northern Cali earthquake and damage to roads etc. I am thinking at this point perhaps, given the quake (and possible thunderstorms directly West over the next few days) that I might head south instead, stop in Vegas and then go to Orange County and ride North on the PCH. I figure by then the earthquake stuff will be cleaned-up.

My concern is how much less of a great experience riding the PCH south to north will be? given that so many peeps here said it's best to do north to south. Those of you who have done it, could you please chime in?

Did South to North (San Diego to Eureka) back in 2009. Was fantastic!! Only diff is which side of the road you are on and on the hairpins who cares :)

Done it both ways by cage - safer south to north as there are some certified idiots trying to pass but views are better tho you will be too busy to see much ....best to pull off.

Do Utah if you want scenery, Arches, Bryce Canyon and Zion are all worth your time

PCH is fab tho...best I think is south of Pebble Beach ( tho the ride through is worth the money )
Big Sur, Monterey alll excellent all the way to San Luis Obispo.

If you are near the area catch Mount St. Helens - very worthwhile and a cool road up to .

Have fun.
