Cbr's of that era was heavy & lack HP. Not sure about torque.

If I was OP, I'd get a fuel injected bike. Unless he enjoys carbs

Edit: I believe the gixxer is FI for that year

I too had a 929. Should've held onto that one! Enjoyed the 954 too - buddies bike.
 
The K1 GSXR1000 was the benchmark liter bike of the era. I prefer the 954 styling though so I'd probably get that.. had too many gixxers over the years.

929 isn't even in the ballpark though, that's for sure.

The 954 is still a good looker, with a decent trunk for storage. Cbr's of that era were quite light in weight.

these bikes still look good after all these years!!!
 
hmm, interesting. i wonder why there is such a big difference in power @ the wheel....

specs on paper looks similar....gsxr more powerful of course but comparable....
 
It happens every few years in the industry, one manufacturer makes a quantum leap and the others try to catch up. That bike was the K1 GSXR1000 in 2001- it blew away all the competition by a wide margin. The next one would've been the all-new ZX10R in 2004, although the K3 GSXR1000 was also quite retarded and my personal favourite of the decade. Today it's (still) the BMW S1000RR

Saw a guy at Timmies who wanted to sell his. Seems like he spends hours polishing his bike. Very immaculate condition. If I was in the market for one, I'd buy it.
