The new Facebook Messenger. Things you must know.

Ppl that own an Android phone are concerned about security.....

Other things you need to know.... http://www.snopes.com/computer/facebook/messenger.asp

And in other news, people care more about a social app than they do about other stuff going on in the world.

Thanks for the link,
I read the Snopes earlier but regardless of how they justify it, i dont want to legally give them the right to turn my camera on, launch apps and read my text messages. If NSA does it illegally, thats a different story but im not going to volunteer for it and i think people have the right to know what they are signing up for.

It's not justification - It's an explanation. It's how the technology works. It is telling you that it will NEED to access these things in order to execute its advertised functions. You're not granting Facebook permission to do as it pleases with these things, but rather acknowledging that you are aware of what it may require access to while being used.

Read the Agreements of any other app you have installed and see what they require access to, and what you have agreed to.

P.S - FOX has no integrity. None. They are not a legitimate news source.

FOX is definitely not a credible source but i checked it out on other sources like the Huffington post and others as well.

Whether it's justification, excused, technical explaination, i think most people wouldn't want an app to turn on their front camera and mic whenever it chooses to, regardless of what the reasoning is.

Many other apps do this without gonig this far. As in when you click on camera, then sure, give access to it. But facebook is making it legal to start your camera, without you calling for it.

At the end, i think most people would rather not use the messenger if it means giving big brother an key to their most personal stuff like text messages and contacts. Let alone someone watching you in your house from a remote place because you agreed to it.

My 2 cents anyway.

+1
They are not spying on you, they just need access to those features of your phone to do what the app is created to do.
They need permission to use your camera and microphone because you can do video calling, without that permission they would not be aloud to do this. etc.

Haha yeah lets look at USATODAY on stuff about US spying lol Why not just go ask zuckerberg for his honest opinion?

When we talked about NSA style spying years before Snowden's revelation, people like you said exactly what you just said. Its all a conspiracy. Its a bunch of crazies with a tinfoil hat. Well they sure showed us.

But i'm sure the Zionist backed owner of facebook is a very moral man who has no intention of spying on you. And while the message section of fb was working perfectily fine, they decided to add a whole separate app just because.

You do what you like but people have a right to know what they are agreeing to. No matter what justification they whitewash it with.

As soon as they told me I needed another app for msg's I deleted the original FB app and went back to the mobile site. To much hassle for something I find myself hating as I do it (lurking)

Wasn't Facebook supposed to follow the slippery slope of MySpace? Any signs that it is?

Apples to Oranges.

Myspace had no direction aside from self-promotion. Facebook is very clever in their data-mining ways which means $$$$

lol. i love people who complained about this at work. (i am a business specialist and general manager at rogers.) why are people making this such a huge deal? it's a messaging application for your cell phone. i repeat, your cell phone. if you want to message someone using your cell phone, why don't they just text message. you know, text message? the original phone messaging application? in the past 3 years of being in this industry, i have never seen anyone who did not have unlimited text messaging.

well, mr. delfonic, what about messaging outside of canada? there are a million other apps out there that can be considered as world messaging. download a different app. what's app, viber, gtalk etc. even email. friggin email someone.

geez. stop getting your panties in a knot.
