Toronto Police Chief Bill Blair will be forced to step down from his position after his term ends next April.
The Toronto Police Services Board announced Wednesday afternoon its' decision to not renew the chief’s contract.
"After considerable discussion related to the Toronto Police Service’s continuing need for organizational renewal, the Board has decided not to renew the employment agreement of Chief Blair,” the board said in a press release.

Blair’s final day in office will be April 25, 2015.
The chief has yet to publicly respond to the announcement.
Speaking to reporters following the announcement, TPS Board Chair Alok Mukherjee said Blair wanted to renew his contract, but the board decided it needed someone new in order to help renew the police service.
“The Board is very, very proud of the record of Chief Blair. The board has nothing but the highest regard for him and the board is very grateful and appreciative of his service to this community,” Mukherjee said.
Mukherjee would not disclose how close the board’s vote was, but said that the decision was not easy and took a great deal of careful consideration.
Mukherjee said the board did not consider any specific incidents – including the G20 and the investigation into Mayor Rob Ford -- in its discussion about whether to renew the chief’s contract.
Mayor Rob Ford, who has publicly criticized the chief a number of times, made a statement soon after the board released its' decision.
"I want to thank Chief Bill Blair for his service to the people of this city for the last 10 years," he said to a crowd of reporters waiting outside his city hall office. "The decision was made strictly with the Toronto Police Services Board. I look forward to working with the next police chief next April."
Ford refused to answer any questions from reporters about his relationship with Blair.
The two officials have had harsh words for each other in the past. Blair told reporters he was "disappointed" with the mayor's behaviour and drug use. The Toronto police investigated Ford extensively during an investigation into a drug ring in the city.
The mayor was heard calling Blair a "%^&*sucker" on video and Ford's brother Doug has called for him to step down, calling him "the most political police chief" in Toronto's history.
Councillors react
Following the decision, a number of councillors praised the chief, but said they respect the board’s decision.
“He (Blair) made a tremendous contribution. The board made a decision and I respect that decision,” Coun. Joe Mhevic told CP24, adding that Chief Blair had “two very full and active terms.”
Mhevic said he hopes that the board initiates as wide a search as possible in looking for a new chief.
Coun. John Parker quickly issued a tweet following the news, saying he regrets the decision not to renew Blair’s contract.
“I’ve appreciated the work of Chief Blair and I’ve appreciated the opportunity to work with him,” Parker told CP24.
Parker said he credits the chief for a more community-focused type of policing that he’s observed in his ward.
Coun. Doug Ford, who has also had harsh words with the chief in the past, issued a brief statement saying he wishes the chief well.

“The Board is very, very proud of the record of Chief Blair. The board has nothing but the highest regard for him and the board is very grateful and appreciative of his service to this community,”

Haha, one of the dumbest statements i've heard in a while. He has such a great record but we decided we don't want him back.......riiiiiight.

So I guess Doug Ford was right.
Fords= 1
Blair= 0

Must've hurt

I never did forgive him for the g20 fiasco. The most blatant violation of ones rights I have ever witnessed. I almost got caught up in the Queen Spadina "sweep" with my wife and my dog! Just out for a walk! Had I left the house 60 seconds earlier they would have "swept" me up too. From King and Spadina! I still recall the image of an older woman, alone in a light summer dress, heels and her tiny dog, caught in the police sweep and getting soaked in the rain!

I believe he claimed no knowledge of the sweep, but an order as strange as that must have come from the top or near the top. So even if he didn't know, he ought to have known!

End rant...btw I do not oppose g20 activities at all..

who's up next ?

probably a woman... hehehe

A minority woman will be perfect!

On a side note.. A woman i know very well.. Very pretty but possibly one the stupidest most gullible person i know in my life (no exaggeration!) got hired into the police force.. I cant believe people of her caliber are whats enforcing the law now. And i cant believe they dont have stricter intelligence standards

Side note 2

Last i checked few months ago, durham regional police careers page stated "we are only hiring woman"

Back to blair.. I think even chief wiggem would have done a better job.

Between the g20 and getting politiclly involved in the Ford fiasco. Essentially stabbing ford in the back after Ford supported him thru the g20 where a lot of mayors would have turned their backs on him..

All for what? Because ford said cops 4 years into their shouldnt be making 90k a year.

"If i was educated, I'd be a damn fool"

Stupid & gulliable is exactly what they hire. Think about it it makes sense. They believe anything you tell them. Makes them more of a team player. You don't want them thinking for themselves do you? People that tend to think for themselves are harder to control. If the police services were smart they should start at religious instuitions because that's their key demograpic.

Isn't she communist?

He was better than the last guy.

Green is always greener....

+1 billion

He still comes up smelling like a rose after Fantino

You say that like it's a bad thing?
I thought Canada was a communist country, that's why I moved here.

Fantino was the worst. Blair was Nobel Prize caliber in comparison...
I'm new to politics, but I'd hazard a guess & say communism is run by a dictator. But it is rather close to socialism, so you won't be disappointed

I liked Fantino...as far as the worst, anyone remember McCormack? His son was caught up in a scandal where they world shake down Toronto bars/clubs for cash. It all came out during the Fantino days, but how long did it go on for really?

Blair, had a few scandals during his tenure which didn't help. Sammy Yatim, carding, racial profiling, g20. I don't think the Rob Ford thing was really a big factor.

Blair and Fantino are totalitarian scumbags. Good riddance. Blair needs to be in jail for his G20 fiasco.
