Have a Yamaha R6, want a new bike to ride every day (Looking at the FZ-09).

You folks are overlooking an obvious choice. A Burgman 650 can out run an R1.

Or so I've heard. :lmao:
Why don't you ask the rider first hand instead of relying on hearsay?

People that laugh at their own lame attempts at humour have a maturity problem or so I've heard.

OP woud be hellishly more comfortable on a daily commute. Only time the kid was jealous was sitting in traffic.

But it's not what OP is looking for.

Kid loves his 2013 FZ8 for the reasons OP is citing. Upright seating with loads of power and the 8 was cited for the effort on the suspension.

The big change for 2013 is adjustable suspension. The new 43mm inverted forks allow you to set compression and rebound damping, along with spring preload. The rear shock omits the compression damping, but this suspension package addresses the one weakness of last year’s version – a little softness at the rear. Now, the FZ8 can be dialed in to preference, and the fabulous, neutral handling can be fully exploited.

Might be worth the OPs time to chase one down. Insurance was cheap too..
