Ghost Towns/Abandoned Places?

Hi,
I was thinking that I would like to explore Ontario more and I am quite interested in abandoned places. Would anyone be interested in riding to such destinations? I'd be leaving from central Mississauga (just East of Sq.1).

Here are some resources I found:

http://www.ghosttownpix.com/ontario/regions/indexcent.html
http://www.ghosttowns.com/canada/ontario/ontario.html

Cheers!

Nemo is gone my dear. Please, move on.

:>

For real now;

Are these places typically accessible? Or, are they boarded up? Would make for some cool photo shoots to say the least.
I'd be interested.

There are some really cool ones in Pennsylvania if you're in for a bit of a longer ride. I know Omnivore has posted quite a few rides he's been on to places like this. Definitely worth checking out.

Sounds good! I guess depending where you want to go. If you decide where you want to go, post it up, and maybe i can come. When were you thinking? And what exactly do you want to do? Ride up and then go urban exploring. Also, don't want any tickets or arrests fro tresspassing :S

I'm actually really interested in this. I've tried googling but without leads. Thanks for the links & let us know when you're heading out.

Oh yeh don't want a trespassing charge. I really know how to hop a fence though, lol

Closer to home have you ever checked out the property set aside for the possible future Pickering airport? Lots of places have been bulldozed, but it's still a pretty neat area to wander around. The roads are still public as far as I know (and mostly dirt), but yes, virtually every boarded up place has no trespassing signs.

There's an abandoned radar station in Clinton ON. Apparently it was built to train radio operators.

I'm interested...

Camp 30 in Clarington is definitely accessible. It's deteriorating though, and may or may not be around for long...

"Site of a former POW camp used during the Second World War. Camp 30 was populated by officers of Nazi Germany."
"It is the site of the famed "Battle of Bowmanville" where German POWs staged an uprising and the Canadian Armed Forces had to be called in the break up the mini-war."
"This is the only German POW camp left in Canada and perhaps North America."

I don't think anybody wants to rape me

Haha! Some very amusing posts here!
I wanted to see what the interest is like before organizing something and there seems to be plenty of interest. I am thinking sometime within the next month. The idea is to have a cool route with one or more of these destinations depending on distance and time. I think we can be safe from trespassing. It would be more like rural exploration than urban exploration but on the same lines (although, from what I understand, most of these places were company towns). I can see a lot more traffic/visitors at abandoned places within the city and therefore more "no-trespassing" signs and stringent security. Photoshoots could be fun if you are so inclined. Please feel free to lead a ride to such a destination when convenient for you and I may join myself.

I'll let you know when I make time for this but should be one of the near-future weekends.
